Monster iClarityHD Video Transcript

-Bluetooh speakers are an easy way to play wireless music from a smart phone or a laptop, but these devices are relatively new to the market and you might reach above your budget with them, such as the case with this guy. I'm Justin Yu, Associate Editor for CNET.com, with a first look at the Monster Cable iClarity HD Bluetooth Speaker. It will set you back a $120, but it is one of the smaller Bluetooth speakers we've tested, and it does deliver on its promise for great audio quality thanks to dual 35 mm drivers that live behind the small grill on the front. On the right side, you'll find buttons for power, as well as volume, and another button that turns the iClarity HD into a portable speaker phone when paired with a Bluetooth smart phone. On the back, you'll find a simple on/off switch and a mini USB port. Now, it's important to note that there's no external power source. So, to recharge the speaker, all you have to do is plug it in to an open USB port on a computer. Pairing the Bluetooth speaker is simple and we're off playing music on an iPhone in less than 5 minutes. On that note, the iClarity HD does deliver adequately deep bass thumps at low- and mid-range volumes. But the tiny fuzz does kick in at higher volumes, and we're just not as excited about the fidelity as the sound matters; Foxhole version 2, another Bluetooth speaker, that's actually more expensive. So that being said, the iClarity will do fine at an indoor get together or, otherwise, smaller party. But, don't expect the device to power your next house party. So keep that in mind and you'll be happy with your purchase. I'm Justin Yu. This is the Monster Cable iClarity HD Bluetooth Speaker, and that sounds good to me.

Logitech Z515

With its durable outer shell, multiple connectivity options, and wide range of sound, the Logitech Wireless Speaker Z515 makes a great sidekick for your next backyard BBQ or picnic party. However, if portability isn't your primary concern, you can trade size for sound quality with the Creative D100, another Bluetooth speaker that costs less than the Logitech.

Monster ClarityHD Micro hands-on

All in all, the Monster ClarityHD Micro sounds good, but it's not worth the $200 price tag.

Razer Ferox Mobile Gaming Speakers

The Razer Ferox gaming speakers are supposed to amplify the sounds of your portable gaming, but despite their progressive design, we're dissatisfied with the audio quality even at midrange volumes. We recommend spending a little more on Creative's D100 cordless Bluetooth speaker to get your money's worth.

Creative Inspire S2 Wireless

Creative's diminutive Bluetooth PC speaker system delivers impressive sound for such a compact package.

Creative Labs ZiiSound D5

Though the price of the Creative ZiiSound D5 Bluetooth speaker is a bit steep, its simple, attractive design and decent sound make it recommendable.

Audioengine A5+

The Audioengine 5+ powered speakers deliver excellent sound quality and provide a clutter-free way to listen to smartphones, iPods, or any other audio source.

Logitech FreePulse Wireless Headphones

The Logitech FreePulse Wireless Headphones are remarkably light headphones. The sound quality is decent overall with an emphasis on bass. The Bluetooth transmitter can be used with any audio source that has a minijack headphone output.

Parrot Minikit Smart

The Parrot Minikit Smart combines an easy-to-use Bluetooth speakerphone with a sturdy smartphone windshield mount and charger, making it useful for both hands-free calling and turn-by-turn navigation when paired with an app.

A high-priced karaoke machine for pop star wannabes

This Bluetooth-powered speaker and microphone set is a novel toy for parties, but its $180 price tag is a little too much to spend when you can download the app for free.

Logitech Wireless Boombox for iPad

Logitech wins again with the Wireless Boombox for iPad, delivering a speaker that sounds great and won't empty your wallet. We recommend it for stationary indoor and outdoor use, but portable music lovers should keep shopping.

Monster iClarityHD Micro 100 (silver) Review

The good: Two 35mm drivers provide clear sound with ample bass; built-in microphone for voice conferencing; 5-hour battery life; small footprint.

The bad: Very expensive; lacks remote control; rechargeable battery only.

The bottom line: The Monster iClarityHD Precision Micro Bluetooth Speaker 100 delivers excellent sound quality and even includes a microphone for hands-free teleconferencing with a Bluetooth smartphone, but we can't recommend a $120 accessory when Logitech and Creative offer a similar product for less.
