>> Brian Tong: What's up, Prize Fight Fans? I'm Brian Tong, and this week, we have a faceoff between two phones that were made to message and give the kiddies all the social networking that they want. It's a Prize Fight punchout between T-Mobile's Sidekick LX and Helio's Ocean 2. Our judges for this fight are Senior Editor Bonnie Cha, Associate Editor Nicole Lee, and yours truly. We'll take our three judges scores, and average them out to the nearest tenth each round. The final Prize Fight score will then be an average of all rounds using the same decimal system. It's five rounds to the finish. First round is design. [ring bell] The Sidekick LX is the slimmest we've ever seen. It has a great display, but it has a pretty big footprint. The Ocean 2 has rounded corners with a sleek dual-slide design. Neither of these phones can really be called sexy, but the Sidekick takes [ring bell] the round with a 3.3, and the Ocean 2 gets a 2.3. Next round [ring bell] is navigation. [music] The scroll ball on the LX makes it easy to navigate right out of the box. Plus you'll get a nice spacious keyboard, but the screen can be difficult to flip out. The Ocean has a unique touch-pad sensor, but it really isn't that intuitive, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't me, but the Ocean's menus were slow. And the keyboard, it is spacious, but the buttons aren't really defined as separate keys. The Sidekick takes another round [ring bell] 3.7 to 2.7, and after averaging two rounds, the LX leads by one point. Helio's got some work to do. Next round [ring bell] is the features. [music] These two phones come packed with similar features. Both have 3G and GPS, and you'll get all your social networking with Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. The Ocean has a two megapixel camera compared to the Sidekick's 3.2 megapixel one, but it makes up for it with Flickr support and direct uploading to YouTube. There's no WiFi [ring bell], but we're calling this round even and both phones get a 4.3. Next round [ring bell] is multimedia and Web. The Sidekick's camera gets the edge here. The full HTML browser is pretty solid, and the mini page mode is nice. Its download catalog was the first app store that I can remember, but there are no music or video purchases. Just ringtones and apps. Now, the Ocean's browser is on par with the Sidekick, and it may not look as good because of its small screen, but it also includes tab browsing. Plus, the Ocean 2's online store has a lot more music and video content to purchase. Helio finally takes this round [ring bell] with a 4, and the Sidekick LX gets a 3.7. Now, after four rounds, the Sidekick still leads by five tenths of a point. The final round that decides it all is call quality. [music] Overall call quality for the LX was good, but others told us they heard a slight echo on their side of the line. The Ocean 2 delivered with great sounding calls, and friends on the other side said there was a noticeable difference from the Sidekick. The Helio gets a [ring bell] 4.3, and the Sidekick gets a 3.3. So let's average out all five rounds, and after the Sidekick LX jumped ahead early, the Ocean 2 fought back in the final rounds, but it just wasn't enough. The Sidekick LX wins 3.7 to 3.5 in [ring bell] another close battle and is your Prize Fight winner. Both of these phones are social-messaging freaks, and you can be sure they'll meet again.
