>> Hi I'm Bonnie Chung senior editor at CNET dot com and today we're taking a first look at the Mio DigiWalker C230. This is a very, very basic GPS system that does navigation and that's it, has this really nice compact size and unless it gets too small because it kind of gets lost in your car but it still manages to pack in a three point five touch screen which is pretty standard right now, icons are nice and big, I did find that entering addresses on the on-screen keyboard was a little rough because it's pretty cramped but one nice feature that it does have is text-to-speech functionality so you get actual street names and it's pretty rare for such a entry level device like this so that's really nice. Overall performance was good and start up times were a little inconsistent so that was a little frustrating but it's a good value for two hundred and fifty dollars and if you just want the basics this will do it. Though still a practical PDA/GPS combo, the Mio 168RS offers few compelling improvements over its predecessor.

The good: The Mio DigiWalker C230 portable navigation system offers text-to-speech functionality and an affordable price tag. Its screen is much improved over its predecessor's.
The bad: The onscreen keyboard is a bit cramped, and we wish there was an easier way to adjust the volume.
The bottom line: With an improved display and the addition of text-to-speech functionality, the Mio DigiWalker C230 is a solid and affordable entry-level portable navigation system for GPS newbies.
