>> Portable iPod speakers are a dime a dozen nowadays, which means accessories makers are saddled with the burden of making their devices stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately Memorex doesn't do such a good job with its foldable travel speaker, which is the sixty dollar unit I have here that has pretty uninspiring sound quality. Although this unit has a built-in digital clock, it inexplicably leaves off alarm functionality, which I don't understand why they didn't include. It'd be particularly useful when you're on the road. And while we're at it, why not throw in an FM radio just for kicks. You already have the display. What you do get is a reasonably light and compact folding design that will charge your iPod while it's docked to wall power. Also you have the option of powering off of four AA batteries which are inserted into a compartment on the bottom of the unit. Memorex also includes a padded travel pouch for transporting the speaker. Still, the overall feel of the unit is cheap thanks to the plastic construction, and sound quality is a weak point. [ background music ] Don't expect to get any bass or full rich sounding audio. Music doesn't sound completely awful, but take a pass on this speaker unless you're in a pinch. The good: The Memorex Travel Speaker features a compact, folding design with an understated style. It can run off of batteries and will charge the iPod when plugged in to wall power. There's a digital clock and an auxiliary line input option.
The bad: The Memorex Travel Speaker has a cheap-feeling plastic body and offers thin sound with no bass. Volume adjustment is limited, and the clock doesn't have an alarm function.
The bottom line: The Memorex Travel Speaker offers a compact, foldable design and some handy extras, but the so-so sound quality and cheap plastic construction will likely be a turnoff for some potential buyers.
