>> Hey I'm Donald Bell, Senior Editor for Digital Audio and MP3 and today we're taking a first look at the Macally TunePro iPod alarm clock speaker system. It's really an alarm clock first before it's a speaker system or AM/FM radio. Sound quality is okay for an alarm clock. It's not gonna blow you away, it's not meant to compete with really more full featured iPod speaker systems, but it does a great job as an alarm clock. If your iPod is set as the alarm, it will fade in the music very slowly so it doesn't jar you out of bed. You will also know that if your iPod isn't docked it will default to a buzzer mode so you're not gonna miss your morning commute just because you forgot to dock your iPod. The only drawbacks to a system like this is there's no battery backup for the clock. If there's a power outage in the middle of the night, it's gonna default back to the blinking midnight. Also we were a little disappointed that the snooze button, which is the thing that you probably smack the hardest the first thing in the morning, is placed right in front of your precious iPod. You run the danger of hitting your iPod out of the speaker dock first thing in the morning. Beyond that it's got a lot of features. It's got a built-in EQ that you can set; it's got a 12 hour or 24 hour clock display. The TunePro's biggest selling points are the fact that it looks really stunning. The other biggest selling point is that not only is it an iPod speaker dock speaker system, but also there is an FM radio and AM radio. AM radio is kind of a rarity in speaker systems at this price point. About 130 dollars. I'm Donald Bell and that was a First Look at the Macally TunePro iPod alarm clock. ^M00:01:38 [ Music ] ^M00:01:40

The good: The Macally TunePro iPod alarm clock offers a gorgeous modern design, above-average audio quality, and an advanced set of controls at an affordable price.
The bad: The TunePro excels as an alarm clock, but as an all-purpose speaker system it's only so-so. Some will find the TunePro's many controls to be overwhelming.
The bottom line: At this price, you can't beat the Macally TunePro iPod alarm clock's combination of features, design, and audio quality.
