A look at Sony's new high-end Xperia ZL Video Transcript

Hi, guys. This is Brian Bennett at CNET.com and we're at CES 2013. And we're taking a look at the Sony Xperia ZL. Now, this phone is the global variant of the device. As you can tell, it is a pretty high end. It's not as high end as the-- also recently announced Sony Xperia Z, but it has the same basic specs, they've got a big 5-inch HD resolution display. It also has the same quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, that's 1.5 GHz, also has 16 GB of internal storage and this very large 5-inch HD LCD screen. And as far as the camera is concern, it's the same as well it has a 13 megapixel censor with LED flash, as well as a back side illuminated feature that allows you to do HDR shooting modes in both stills and video. Also, it has very thin look to it, as well as, you know, very flush design for the screen that runs edge to edge. One thing that sets this device apart from the Xperia Z is that, on the back it does not have glass coating on the back, that's a little bit more premium. What is has is a plastic textured design, though, it also has a embedded battery. Now, the software on the Xperia ZL, just like the Xperia Z, is Android 4.1 Jellybean. So, you get a very modern user interface as well as Android features. So, at the moment, Sony has not released pricing or availability for the Xperia ZL. But it should hopefully be shipping sometime in the spring of this year. I'm Brian Bennett and this has been a first look at the Xperia ZL.

Sony Xperia ZL Review

The good: The Sony Xperia ZL is thin, with a big, bright screen, a zippy processor, great call quality, and a camera that takes excellent pictures.

The bad: The Xperia ZL is more expensive than competing unlocked handsets. The phone’s battery life is short and its camera is sluggish.

The bottom line: The unlocked Sony Xperia ZL's camera captures excellent images and makes clear calls but has a price that's hard to swallow.
