Logitech Z515 Video Transcript

-Hi! I'm Justin Yu, associate editor for cnet.com with a first look at the Logitech Z515 portable Bluetooth speaker. This $100 speaker is a simple solution for freeing your music from the prisons of your computer and mobile audio players while other devices will set you back around $200 for Bluetooth. The Z515 offers decent audio quality, a Bluetooth, and a wireless dongle connection for a laptop as well as an overall pretty small footprint for $100. It's made of tough black plastic and it has two 2-inch drivers mounted on the front speaker. We aren't blowing away by the aesthetics however. It only comes in this plane black color and feels kinda clunky next to the competitive Creative D100 Bluetooth speaker. A thick plastic foot pops out of the back here for free-standing operation and you can actually store the wireless USB dongle in a small yellow pocket underneath. The volume and power buttons live just above the feet and two rubber feet sit on the bottom to brace it against a smooth surface. In addition to the AD2P Bluetooth, the Z515 also includes a wireless 2.4 gigahertz USB dongle that can play wireless music from any USB device from 50 feet away. The sound quality from a Bluetooth connected device will always come up short, but we're actually impressed with its ability to pump out music with zero distortion or fuzz even at top volume and it does get pretty loud. The two-inch drivers provide fairly balanced sound, but the lack of bass tells us that it's better suited for a dinner party or a medium-sized get-together; house parties need not apply. You can read our full details in the review on cnet.com. But that's gonna do it for me. I'm Justin Yu. This is the Logitech Z515 Bluetooth Speaker and that sounds good to me.

The Razer Ferox gaming speakers are supposed to amplify the sounds of your portable gaming, but despite their progressive design, we're dissatisfied with the audio quality even at midrange volumes. Logitech Z515 Review

The good: Includes wireless USB adapter and Bluetooth connectivity; durable case; moderate sound quality; 10-hour rechargeable battery.

The bad: Lacks remote control; can't use it as a speakerphone; rechargeable battery only; Creative D100 has bigger drivers and four color options.

The bottom line: With its durable outer shell, multiple connectivity options, and wide range of sound, the Logitech Wireless Speaker Z515 makes a great sidekick for your next backyard barbecue or picnic party. However, if portability isn't your primary concern, you can trade size for sound quality with the Creative D100, another Bluetooth speaker that costs less than the Logitech.
