Logitech Squeezebox Duet Video Transcript

>> Hey there I'm Natali del Conte with CNET TV here from the CES floor with a first look at the Logitech Squeezbox Duet. Now the Squeezbox is not a new product from Logitech. What's new about it is they've got a new controller. Now the controller in like the old one, which mounted on your wall, is actually a portable device. It looks a bit like an iPod, in fact it's even got the scroll wheel like the iPod. The display is really nice, it's a 2 point 4 inch LCD screen. Now about the Squeezbox, it controls your media library from any PC, MAC, or Linux machine. It runs over your home network on an 802 11 router. You upload your library into the Squeezbox network and then play whatever you've got. A cool thing about this, you also don't need a PC because it connects to the internet, so it can play any online radio, it can play with rhapsody, pandora, and logitech says they have a new partnership with Last FM as well, so you'll be able to network within the Squeezbox community. It costs 399 dollars, if you want an extra controller that's 299 dollars. You might want an extra receiver as well, the receiver is 149 dollars and you'll want one of these either one per room, or one per speaker set up. So this is the Logitech Squeezbox Duet and it is available this month. I'm Natali del Conte with CNET TV coming to you from CES 2008. [ music ]

Logitech Squeezebox Duet Review
Editors' rating
Very good

The good: Network digital audio system includes excellent wireless remote with color screen and scroll wheel control; supports Wi-Fi and Ethernet home networks; compatible with virtually all non-DRM audio file formats, provides access to PC-based music files (on Windows, Mac, and Linux machines) as well as PC-free Internet radio, podcasts, and premium online music services including Rhapsody, Sirius, and Pandora; excellent online account integration; expandable to multiple rooms.

The bad: Minor improvements could make the already good interface even better; scroll wheel isn't quite as responsive as the iPod's; no compatibility with DRM music files such as those purchased from iTunes or Zune online stores; setup process could frustrate those who aren't tech-savvy.

The bottom line: With its excellent iPod-like remote, the Logitech Squeezebox Duet is an ideal way to stream the full range of digital music--including files on your computer's hard drive, premium subscription music services, and free Internet radio--to your living room stereo system.
