Logic Pro X controls your Mac music studio via iPad Video Transcript
I'm Dan Ackerman and we are here taking a look at Apple's new Logic Pro 10 Music recording software. This is such a big complicated package. There's so much to it, we can't really go over everything in one video. So instead, I'm gonna show you how to use one of the cool highlights here which is using your iPad as remote control surface for Logic Pro 10. This is a special app that you get for free on your iPad once you spend $200 on Logic Pro 10. And once you connect those 2 on the same Wi-Fi network, then it's actually pretty seamless. The most important thing you can do is control your mixing board and then you can bring up an on-screen mixing board right here with all your favorites on it. But at the same time, you can get 8 faders at a time here on your iPad, and the real advantage here is you can actually use multi-touch on the iPad to control multiple faders at once so I can grab 2 or 3 of them and just go up and down and you'll see that they move at the same time right here on the iMac screen. If I was just doing this on the computer I'd had to take my mouse and the pointer and just move every fader one at a time not nearly as efficient. The other cool thing is you can take pretty much any instrument or track that you've got here in Logic and you'll get a contextual screen here on the iPad. So, if I select this bass track I have right here, I get a fret board here on the iPad that I can play directly from the iPad but I can call up into like piano and I can get a keyboard on screen and I get the controls for that particular instrument and I can play around a little bit like this. We just threw 4 bars together using a bunch of different keyboards and a bass and some drums just to show what you could do very quickly here in Logic Pro 10. Like I've got a loop playing-- I like some solo tracks directly from the iPad. I can add stuff, make it louder or quieter. So for Logic Pro 10, the iPad integration is really deep. It didn't have to set my iPad to make sure this screen didn't turn itself off after a few minutes. Otherwise, it can happen to turn it on and [unk] having to remake the connection between the computer and the iPad. But once I got that out of the way, I found myself using the iPad a lot more for control and the actual iMac screen a lot less. I'm Dan Ackerman and that is a quick How To for Apple's Logic Pro 10.
Xander Soren, director of music marketing for Apple, shows off the GarageBand application designed for the iPad 2. The $4.99 app's features include touch-to-play instruments, guitar amps and effects, and eight-track recording and mixing.
This popular app lets you create music on your ipad with virtual instruments and pre-recorded loops. It's fun, creative, and for only $5, it is a steal.
Our good friend Rana Sobhany drops by the studio to tell us all about Destroy the Silence, her new musical project featuring just two Apple iPads and a mixer!
Adriana Evans also known as Adriana Madera is a singer songwriter that possesses an enormous talent. Her debut album on PMP/Loud/RCA Records was truly ahead of the curve. It was one of the first so-called Neo Classic Soul records.
Adriana hated the over processed sound of nineties R&B. She and her musical collaborator, Dred Scott decided to take their music in a completely different direction. This meant using real strings and horns, a tight rhythm section with actual human beings sitting together playing live music. This was a simple but revolutionary concept at that time.
Music has always been an integral part of Adriana's life. The daughter of a jazz singer raised in the Haight/Asbury district of San Francisco. Growing up she grooved to everything from Afro Cuban music to Led Zeppelin and everything in between.
Now with her new release Nomadic she is once again ahead of the curve. Her new collection is an eclectic mix of Latin, Soul, Rock and Jazz. It is done in a manner that only Evans could accomplish. She has created a sound that is current yet timeless.
