>> T-Mobile's new Sidekick swings into action. The IRS wants eBay sellers to pay their taxes. And a new site where oenophiles can get a wine buzz. It's Thursday, July 31, I'm Natali Del Conte and it's time to get Loaded. ^M00:00:12 [ Music ] ^M00:00:14

>> The new T-Mobile Sidekick has launched. It looks a lot like the old Sidekick just not quite as bulky and it comes in green. Bonnie Cha reviewed it on CNET and here's a quick look. ^M00:00:23 [ Music ] ^M00:00:24

>> Now some of you who might have been reading about rumors of this Sidekick under the codename of Gekko, but they have officially announced it as simply the T-mobile Sidekick. As far as the design it's very similar to the Sidekick LX. It's slimmer and lighter, so you're gonna get a bit of a smaller screen, but you get this nice keyboard here and it's got this swivel design. But the unique part about the Sidekick's design is the interchangeable shells. It ships with two shells in the box, you get a black one and this really neon green one if you want it, but you can also create your own specific skin website. You can add your own graphics or images, so you can have a one-of-a-kind Sidekick. It's very pretty cool and easy to use. ^M00:01:05 [ Music ] ^M00:01:07

>> The Sidekick is meant for the teeny-bopper crowd and they should like it just as much as they liked the first two models, unless they want Wi-Fi or 3G. It cost $149 with the two-year contract. For Bonnie's entire review, go to CNET.com. I've been known to enjoy a glass of wine or two. The problem is that I am by no means an experienced oenophiles and always looking for ways to learn more about good wine. My Next Door Neighbor turn to me onto a site called Snooth lately and it's my favorite new social network. So when I learned that the site was operated by a small start-up here in New York, I asked the creator Philip James if I could come by for a chat, take a look. So tell me a little bit about Snooth -- is it snooth or snoothe?

>> It's snooth.

>> Snooth?

>> Snooth, snooth. So it's a made-up word. The site is basically a online marketplace for wine. We [inaudible] symmetry for, I think, it's 800,000 sites from 50 countries now. So we have, you know two-and-a-half million prices from around the world. If you know what you want it's a very directive use of the site. If the average person, you know people are confused about wine. People don't know where to begin or intimidated and you know that's why we have a lot of the social network and functionality. So you can see what your friends are drinking, you can sort of [inaudible] yourself to a blogger or a critic and we use clarity and filtering to figure out, you know people who like this will also like that.

>> You already have Twitter and Facebook and all of the social networking integration, so was that something that you wanted to build out in the first round?

>> Yeah, I mean, wine is so often seen as a formal stuffy subject, but it's clear younger and younger people are getting into wine, you know. Our demographic is really mid-twenties to mid-forties. These people are pretty open to those sorts of technologies. We launched last week, the ability on the site to narrow by your zip code and we'll roll it out for the other 49 countries probably next week. And then finally, we have the sort of technology in place for a location based mobile app.

>> Scrabulous is not dead. The game is reborn actually. It was shut down on Facebook this week, so its creators decided to just give it a little make-over and rename it Wordscraper. It does look different. In fact, it doesn't even have the same color scheme or board layout as Scrabble, but it's still a rip off of the game. Do they think the judge in their copyright case won't notice this? If you're making a lot of money on online sites like eBay and not report it in on your taxes, the IRS is on to you. President Bush is expected to sign into effect new legislation that would require online payment processors like PayPal to report receipts for their merchants. Smaller sellers that make less than $10,000 per year, or do fewer than 200 transactions will be exempt, but the remaining retailers will be ten-ninety-nined. Tax experts estimate that this will bring in an additional $9.5 billion in taxes over the next ten years. If approved this law will go into effect in 2011. Yahoo has decided how to refund any music that was purchased on Yahoo Music. The company is going to give Rhapsody coupons to any users who bought music over Yahoo Music engine, which will be shutting down in the fall. Yahoo Music unlimited subscribers will have their entire libraries transferred to Rhapsody, but any non-subscribers who purchased music a la carte will get gift certificates to repurchase that same music in Rhapsody. An Italian Media company is catching on to a Viacom started over a year ago. They are suing YouTube for hosting copyrighted material. Mediaset found nearly 5000 videos from its programming and claims that it has lost approximately 315,000 viewer hours because of it. The company wants 500 million Euros in damage, which is about 779 million U.S. dollars. Interestingly enough, Mediaset is controlled by the Italian Prime Minister, so this case may make more headway a whole lot faster than the Viacom suit. The Garmin Nuviphone will be delayed until at least 2009. The company released a statement ahead of their earnings called discussing the delay. They say that they have found that meetings some of the carrier specific requirements will take longer than anticipated. The Nuviphone is Garmin's GPS touch screen phone that runs 3.5G HSDPA. This means we'll probably see a prototype at CES, so we should all be patient because it will give us something to look forward to. In other mobile phone news, LG has partnered up with Dolby, to put higher quality audio systems on their handsets. LG will soon start to incorporate Dolby Mobile into their phones, which is an audio processing technology standard made for mobile. Some of the features we can expect out of this deal are Mobile Surround sound, Bass extension, high-frequency enhancers, sound level controls and more. We can expect LG phones with this technology as early as the end of 2008. Intel's Classmate PC's headed to Portugal. The company inked the deal to sell 500,000 Classmate PCs to the country for its elementary students. This is part of Portugal's Magellan initiative, which is a joint project with Intel's bring more technology to the educational system. This is a blow to the one laptop per child project because the Classmate PC is a direct competitor. There are also rumors of a third-generation Classmate PC on its way. All we know is that it will have a new look and feel, but that really isn't really saying much, so we all have to wait and see. Those are all your headlines for toady and that wraps up your week of getting Loaded, but if you've missed any episodes, please do be sure to catch up at loaded.cnettv.com. Thank you for watching. I'll see you on Monday. I'm Natali Del Conte with CNET TV and you've just been Loaded. ^M00:06:13 [ Music ]
