>> Intel is in big trouble with the EU. Google has a lot to show and tell at its conference in San Francisco this week. And you can now download movies from Blockbuster, but not from the comforts of your own home. It's Thursday, May 29, I'm Natali Del Conte and it's time to get Loaded. ^M00:00:15 [ Music ] ^M00:00:17
>> Marketwatch is reporting that Intel is in big trouble with the European Union for anticompetitive practices. The EU will announce an official decision against the chip maker later this summer and penalties could include a fine of up to 10% of annual sales or approximately $4.1 Billion. The EU could also stop Intel from marketing its chips at a discount to personal computer manufacturers and forbid them from subsidizing retailers advertising cost as part for its bid for exclusive deals. Intel of course maintains that they have not done anything wrong, but maybe they should pow-wow with Microsoft anyway and get some pointers on how to battle the EU over antitrust. It couldn't hurt. TiVo users will soon be able to rent Disney movies directly from the box. There are very few details about this announcement like exactly when, how much and which Disney movies, but we do know that movies will be available in standard and high-definition and you can rent them for 24-hours at a time. You can already rent movies on TiVo through Amazon's Unbox, but Disney movies are not sold on Unbox. Google is hosting a conference in San Francisco this week, so they've got plenty to show and tell. First stop, the company is bringing Google Earth to the browser. This is a Firefox plug-in that ties into the Google Earth API, but it only works for Windows. Google is also going to integrate Google Gears with WordPress and MySpace mail services so that you can access and respond to your mail when you're not connected to the Internet. I have never found my MySpace mail so important that I need to get to it while I'm off line, but okay. Gears will also now support Firefox 3, Safari and eventually Opera as well. It originally it only worked with Internet Explorer and Firefox 2. And finally Google previewed Android. It's Open-Sourced mobile phone operating system. Pretty much everything they showed off is proof of concept at this point, but you can read up about it at News.com. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that the company will have some sort of pay-for-content video streaming service soon, but did not go into many more details than that. Bezos was speaking at the All Things D Conference had said, "The streaming service will start instantly and is a la carte, for pay." I'm thinking something like Hulu, but with paid content. I don't know. Send in your predictions at Loaded@cnet.com. We've been expecting Dell to throw their hat into the super cheap, super portable laptop market to compete with the likes of the Eee PC and the HP Mini-Note. Engadget got wind of Dell's offering and they say it will be called the Mini-Inspiron. There are no confirmed details, but it's expected to be about 9-inches and cost less than $500. I personally can't wait to see it. I really want one of these, but I wasn't crazy about the Mini-Note and I don't like the Asus keyboard. When we get our hands on Dell's contribution, we will surely let you know. Citysearch is being sued for click fraud. One of the sites advertisers says that he bought ad space on Citysearch and saw his click bills grow, but his return on investment did not. Citysearch has not responded publicly, but most companies do take click fraud pretty seriously or they learn the hard way that they have to. I predict a settlement in this case. Blockbusters showed up a prototype of an in-store downloading machine this week. It's meant to walk customers through recommendations and previews and then let them rent or buy a digital copy of a movie. They say the download will only take 30 seconds and it works with the Archos portable media device. I really do not get this. Why would I physically go to Blockbuster and then download a movie. Can't I do that from home in million different ways? Those are all your headlines for today and that wraps up your week of getting loaded, but if you've missed any episodes, make sure you catch up by visiting Loaded.cnettv.com. Thanks for watching and I'm Natali Del Conte with CNET TV and you've just been Loaded. ^M00:03:47 [ Music ]
