>> eBay is trying to take over the world. BlackBerry's on the workplace may soon be replaced with iPhones and you can now learn to cook on Hulu. It's Thursday, August 14th, I'm Natali Del Conte and it's time to get Loaded.
>> The Food Network is coming to Hulu. This is something I've been wanting for a very long time. The Food Network is owned Scripps Network and that network has not been great about getting its shows online on an easy and navigatable way. They're smart to just leave it to Hulu. The network will serve some shows to Hulu but not all of them. Unfortunately, they are starting with Bobby Flay's Throw Down which is my least favorite show. But some of the other in the kitchen classics should follow soon. I'm particularly excited for shows of Giada De Laurentiis, Mario Batali, and of course, any and all of episodes of Iron Chef.
>> eBay is looking to acquire Gmarket, its Korean counterpart. Gmarket is an online auction and retail site that claims to have 14.7 million users. eBay released a statement on Wednesday saying that they are in talks with Gmarket to discuss the possible sale and that a voluntary preliminary filing has been made with the Korean fair trade commission. eBay has a bad wrap when it comes to acquisitions these days because if their purchase of Skype but Gmarket would help them get a foot into a market that they haven't been able to penetrate. It will also help them diversify from being just an auction site to an auction and retail site.
>> VUDU is introducing a new movie channel that will offer close to 100 films each for under a buck. The channel is called "99 for 99 cents" and you can check out their list of available titles at vudu.com/movies. Now don't assume that this will just be the box office rejects, the channel will feature a rotation of films that include movie classics to a few new releases. One caveat is that the movies will only be offered in standard depth.
>> Shutterfly, the photo sharing site, launched a beta version of Shutterfly 2.0 this week. It has a very cool feature which lets you create a page around a specific event like a wedding or a picnic. Once you establish that page various users can upload photos from that event. So instead of clicking around the albums from a wedding, from say one person's Flickr account or another person's Picasso account, you can just see all pictures on the same URL on Shutterfly. This feature is called Shutterfly Share Sites. It's a concept that's been in the works for a while from various photo sites but Shutterfly is one of the first to really get it out there in a useable way without restrictions. Give it a try and see what you think if you go to weddings or picnics that is.
>> Twitters in the UK will no longer be able to receive Twitters via text message. This is because Twitter has found the cost of SMS in the UK to be prohibitive. UK users can still send Twitters mobilely but Twitter won't send any messages out bound from their servers to mobile devices. This only applies to users in the UK. The company did say that they're working on additional features that involve SMS and mobile phones in the coming weeks which will make the service easier throughout Europe.
>> Apple launched a movie store in iTunes in Australia and New Zealand today. The company has been selling TV shows there for a few months now but movies are previously unavailable for download. Aussies and Kiwis can now buy or rent movies from 20th Century Fox, Disney, Paramount, Warner, MGM, Sony, and Lions Gate. The pricing vary slightly in each country.
>> You can now share article selectively in Google Reader. When Google's RRS Reader launched its sharing feature last year it was indiscriminate. If you wanted to share an article you share it with everyone in your contact list. You can now create various contact lists so you can share separate articles with separate groups of people. For instance, you wouldn't really want to share something personal with your parents but you may want to share that with your friends and vice versa. You can also choose who you are shared with whereas before you could get articles in your feed from anyone on your contact list. This feature launched on Wednesday. Google also updated its calendar application. The calendar is now available on eight more languages, bringing the total number of languages available on Google Calendar to 38.
>> Apple maybe getting a huge corporate order for 200,000 iPhones if HSBC decides to hand them out to employees. The CIO for the global banking firm told ZDNet that the company is considering switching from BlackBerry's to iPhones. This would be a global switch for HSBC if it happens and a big boost of confidence in Apple's ability to keep it exchange support up and running.
>> Those are your headlines for today and that wraps up your week of getting Loaded but if you've missed any episode you can catch up at loaded.cnettv.com. Thank you for watching. I will see you on Monday. I'm Natali Del Conte with CNETTV and you've just been Loaded. ^M00:04:17 [ Music ]
