>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today, we're going to take our first look at the LG VX 9400. This is a new phone from Verizon Wireless Service. Along with the Samsung U620, this is the second phone to receive the V-Cast Mobile TV service. Unfortunately, at our studios in San Francisco, we don't have V-Cast TV coverage. The area is not one of those coverage areas, so I can't actually show you the TV, but I can actually show you the phone and how it works. It might look a little like a slider phone, but actually, it's not. What you do is you just flip the screen up like that and it actually swivels to give it that horizontal landscape display for the TV viewing. It's also necessary to flip up that screen to see the keyboard and a dial. But, it is a pretty neat feature. It moves pretty easily. There's no button or anything that slides it up, you just flip it up all by yourself. I did like the navigation controls, they're pretty large and well designed. You have a couple of soft keys here. You have a navigation toggle, an okay button in the center, a send and end key and a dedicated TV button. If you press the dedicated TV button, the screen will start automatically. You also, one thing you want to do if you're in a TV area, is raise up that antenna. It looks like a regular phone antenna, but it actually is necessary to receive that TV signal. Here on the back, you have a camera lens with a flash and a self-portrait mirror. Overall, it's a pretty well designed phone. I like it a lot better than the Samsung U620, as far as the design goes. I just really like this clip action. Little bit of a larger display as well. Keypad buttons are fine. They are flat with the surface of the phone, so it is a little hard to dial by feel, but I found them big enough and with the big enough numbers and they're also backlit as well. I'm Kent German and this is the LG VX 9400. ^M00:01:26 [ Music ]

LG VX9400 - black (Verizon Wireless) Review
The good: A slick-looking handset that supports Verizon's V Cast Mobile TV service, the LG VX9400 offers excellent video performance and call quality. It also comes loaded with a 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, a microSD card slot, and EV-DO compatibility.
The bad: The LG VX9400's swivel display isn't ideal for making phone calls. Also, its speaker volume is rather weak.
The bottom line: If it's the video experience you're after, the LG VX9400 is the better of the two original V Cast Mobile TV phones. But if making calls is just as important, then you may find the LG VX9400 a bit tedious to use.
