>> I'm Nicole Lee, Assistant Editor at CNET.com and this is the LGVX8600. It is the flip phone version of the LG Chocolate phone. As you can see it has a very nice black glossy finish, very prone to fingerprints. On the front here is the external screen. It shows caller id, it acts as a self portrait viewfinder when the camera's activated. On top here is the 1.3 mega pixel camera lens and on the side here are the dedicated camera button and a voice recorder button, as well as a micro SD card slot. On the other side are the volume rocker and the charger jack. Also on the front here, you can really see it unless I activate it, are the touch sensitive, touch sensitive glowing red music player controls. As you can see in your fast forward, reverse, play, pause and it's kind of a pain having to activate the phone in order to press the controls here. Open it up and you see a really beautiful 2.2 inch display, very crisp and clear colors just pop from the display. The folding of that is a really flat keypad, extremely flush to the surface. It's almost impossible to dial by feel. It's very uniform in texture. Could be a problem with for some people. As far as features go, pretty good features, accessive V cast music, Vcast video which is the Verizon's streaming video service. You also have wireless web, text messaging, email, the aforementioned camera and camcorder features. It also has a music player which is of course the point of touch sensitive music controls. We didn't like the flat keypad and we didn't particularly care for the touch sensitive music controls, but all in all, it's a pretty nice, beautiful phone with great features. So if you can get past touch sensitivity of the controls and the flat keypad, it's a pretty good phone. My name is Nicole Lee, this has been the LGVX8600. ^M00:01:52 [ music ]

Ep. 86: Android Rachel

It's a slow week for cell phones, especially with Bonnie out on vacation in Maui -- the lucky girl. But we still have some mobile news, like rumors of a new LG Chocolate, inklings of a Sony Ericsson Android handset, and the brand new MyTouch 3G from T-Mobile. We also go over our reviews and answer some of your questions.

LG Chocolate 3

The LG Chocolate 3's design doesn't quite match up to its predecessors, but upgraded features like a built-in FM transmitter makes it a worthy music phone purchase.

LG Chocolate VX8550

The LG VX8550 Chocolate is definitely a big improvement over the original Chocolate, with a beautiful yet functional design plus a host of impressive features to boot.

LG Chocolate VX8500

The LG Chocolate is sexy without a doubt but it doesn't do anything other phones can't.

The LG KG800 Chocolate is indeed pretty, but its feature set and performance don't back up its trendy design.

"Looney Tunes Golden Collection" DVD trailer

You know what you want. More three-day weekends. More ounces in a pound of chocolates. More Looney Tunes. Your wish is our command. Because in this 4-disc set are 60 more of the most looneytic Looney Tunes ever unleashed on rabbit, duck, pig or humanity. Indeed, some have never before been on home video! Disc 1 features the tall, gray and haresome one. Disc 2 lampoons Hollywood. Ham actor Porky Pig rules Disc 3. And Disc 4 has the duck and a cast of crazies. One thing: to watch these, you must be as tall as this sign. Wrong disclaimer. Read the one in the box below. Got the idea? Now have fun. And pass the chocolates. Vulcan FlipStart E-1001S

The Vulcan FlipStart E-1001S is the most laptop-like UMPC we've seen so far. The clamshell offers welcome features including a touch pad, but it's still not the real-world, practical UMPC we've been waiting for.

Sony Ericsson W710i

We liked the design and the feel of this Sony Ericsson, and with a resolution of 2 megapixels, this model will give you better pictures than other phones.

LG VX8600 - black (Verizon Wireless) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The LG VX8600 is a beautiful phone that's both elegant and slim. It has a 1.3-megapixel camera, a microSD card slot, stereo Bluetooth, built-in GPS, and support for V Cast Music and V Cast Video.

The bad: The LG VX8600's glossy finish is extremely prone to finger smudges. The touch-sensitive music player controls were tricky to handle, plus the phone's keypad is flush to the surface, resembling one large touchpad.

The bottom line: The LG VX8600 is a stylish successor to the LG VX8500 Chocolate, and, dare we say, a lot nicer in terms of navigation and feel. If you're wary of the Chocolate's quirky touchpad but still want a Chocolate-like phone in a clamshell design, you could do well to give the VX8600 a try.
