>>I'm Nicole [assumed spelling] the Associate Editor for cnet.com and this is a first look at the LG Neon from AT&T. As you can see here's a very slim and compact, very attractive looking phone right here. On the front here is a 2.4 inch display and underneath that you do get the typical navigation array keys like this four-way toggle here. This one key here is the phone dialer key. What that does is it brings up a virtual keypad thus transforming this display into a touch screen. However this touch screen feature of the display is only applicable to the phone dialer. Tilt the phone sideways and slide the phone up and you'll find a full qwerty keyboard which is what makes the Neon a messaging phone of course. The qwerty keyboard has two soft keys on either side of it as well as a dedicated text messaging key. The keyboard is very spacious and the keys are raised above the surface so it's easy to text and send email. Features of the phone include the 2.0 megapixel camera. It also has a slew of messaging features like regular text and multimedia messaging and mobile email. It does have a wireless web browser, a stereo Bluetooth. You also get AT&T mobile music which lets you purchase and download songs courtesy of Napster. Even though you can purchase and download songs over the air, we wouldn't recommend it because the LG Neon does not have 3G. The fastest speed it goes is only Edge. That means downloaded songs can take a really long time. So instead of downloading your music I would just suggest loading them onto a micro SD card instead. The LG Neon is available right now from AT&T for around $29.99 after a two year service agreement and a $50 dollar mail in rebate. The good: The LG Neon is stylish and compact, with a spacious keyboard, a music player, a megapixel camera, and good call quality. It's affordable as well.
The bad: The LG Neon's display is a touch screen, but only for the phone dialer application. It only has tri-band GSM, the photo quality is average, and the EDGE speed is too slow for over-the-air music downloads.
The bottom line: Despite a few quirks, the LG Neon is a good simple messaging phone from AT&T.
