>> Nicole Lee: I'm Nicole Lee Associate Editor for CNET.com and this is the first look at the LG Lotus Elite from Sprint. The LG Lotus Elite is the successor to the old LG Lotus yet it retains that same square design. As you can see it's much sleeker, a lot curvier than the predecessor, it's very vibrant; it's very colorful as you can see here. The biggest update to the LG Lotus Elite is that the screen on the front is touch sensitive. It has a resistive touch screen interface. You can customize it so you can access things like messaging, a slide show, the speed dial and your contacts list right on the front display here. It also has animated wallpaper. The value of having a touch sensitive external display is that you can access your voicemail, your text, your contacts and recent call history as well as your slide shows without ever opening the phone. The front display here also acts as a camera view finder. Flip it open and get a very nice 2.4 inch internal display, very vibrant and colorful. You also get the same menu interface as the original Lotus with Sprints 1 click interface taking center stage. Some of the more interesting short cuts in the 1 click carousel here include access to Facebook, Twitter and Google search. The 2.0 megapixel camera on the Lotus Elite is located right on the hinge of the phone. When the phone is closed the camera lens appears on the upper left side of the phones rear. This makes it easy to take self portraits. Underneath the display you also get typical navigation keys, you also get 3 dedicated shortcut keys labeled social, email and text. The social key can be mapped to any social networks of your choice: Facebook, MySpace or Twitter. And of course since it is a messaging phone you get a full QWERTY keyboard for all your texting needs. The keyboard feels good, not too cramped or crowded. Features of the LG Lotus Elite include: EVDO Rev 0, GPS with Sprint Navigation, access to Sprints broadband services like Sprint TV and a music player. [ Background music ]

>> Nicole Lee: The LGs Lotus Elite will be available for 99.99 with a 2-year service agreement and a $50 mail in rebate. I'm Nicole Lee this has been a first look at the LG lotus Elite. [ Music ]

LG Lotus Elite - red (Sprint) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The LG Lotus Elite has a striking design, with an external touch screen, a great QWERTY keyboard, and plenty of messaging and multimedia features. It has great call quality as well.

The bad: The LG Lotus Elite has features similar to those of its predecessor. We think the photo quality could be improved. We also wished the speakerphone had better audio quality. Plus, the LG Lotus Elite's unique look might not be for everyone.

The bottom line: The LG Lotus Elite's stylish design, healthy feature set, and excellent performance make it a great messaging phone choice for Sprint customers.
