>> I'm Nicole Lee, associate editor for CNET.com, and this is the LG Dare from Verizon Wireless. As you can see, it is a very slim and sexy touch screen phone. On the front, there's a large, three-inch diagonal touch screen display. On the bottom here you do get the call, clear, and voice command keys, as well the end/power key. On the side you do get a volume rocker, a dedicated camera key. On the other side you get a hold key to lock down the screen when not in use. There's also a microSD slot, a speakerphone key, and a USB charging jack. On top of the LG there is a 3.5-millimeter headset jack. On the back here, you do get a 3.2 megapixel camera lens as well. The cool thing about this touch screen phone that sets it apart from other touch screen phones is that you can drag and drop the icons from this shortcuts menu. So in the front here, there's a shortcuts menu, and then we can actually tap it, and then we can drag a particular icon, for example, let's say the web browser. You can drag it directly onto the home screen. So therefore, we can customize what icons we want on the front screen so that we can access our favorite applications easier. The LG Dare also has haptic feedback, which means, you know, whenever you touch the screen there is a tactile, vibrating feedback whenever you hit something. The menu interface is also very unique. It has a scattered layout right here, so you can sort of drag and drop the icons on the scattered menu layout. It's pretty interesting, kind of a cool, fun feature. Another good thing about the LG, there are a variety of text input interfaces. You can enter it via the T9 keypad right here. Or you can enter it via handwriting recognition if you want. You can also flip the phone horizontally so that a QWERTY keyboard will pop up, similar to the Apple iPhone. Another unique feature of the LG Dare is that there is drawing pad, which you can use to sketch out ideas or draw a map. And then you can send your drawing to your friend via multimedia messaging. Like the Apple iPhone, the LG Dare also has a proximity sensor, so if you take the phone up to your face to answer a call, the LCD screen will turn off to save battery life. I feel that one of the best features of the LG Dare is this 3.2 megapixel camera. It has a ton of really high-end features for a camera phone like this. It has auto focus. It has light sensor technology. It also has face detection and a noise reduction. There's also something called "smart pick." It's a feature, which lets you adjust the photo according to low light setting as well. And it's just a very full-featured camera. There's even a built in camcorder, which can record up to 120 frames per second video and play it back in 50 frames per second slow-motion video, which is the first of it's kind in the US. Other features of the Dare include, you know, it's typical texting, multi-media messaging, a full HTML browser. It is also a music player with access V-Cast video, V-Cast music. There's also EV-DO Rev A, which is one of the fasted 3-D speeds around. So overall, it's a very high-end phone with a lot of features. You can even use the LG Dare as a Bluetooth modem. The LG Dare is available right now for $199.00, with a $50.00 mail in rebate and a two-year service agreement, which is a very competitive pricing, especially when compared to the new Apple iPhone. My name is Nicole Lee. This has been the LG Dare from Verizon Wireless. ^M00:03:18 [ Music ]

LG Dare (Verizon Wireless) Review

The good: The LG Dare has an intuitive touch-screen interface, an advanced 3.2-megapixel camera, a full HTML browser, EV-DO Rev. A, and plenty of other powerful features. It also has excellent call quality.

The bad: The LG Dare's touch interface has a slight learning curve, and we weren't too pleased with the handwriting interface. Also, the Web browsing experience was quite disappointing.

The bottom line: The LG Dare is an innovative and feature-rich handset, with several surprises that set it apart from other touch-screen phones.
