>> Hi, I'm Matthew Miscoviac [phonetic], Senior Associate Editor for cnet.com, and this is the LG BV 370. This is an entry-level Blu-Ray player from LG. As you can see, the design is pretty standard. The disc tray is hidden under the automatic flip-down door and the front panel controls are a little bit different than you're used to. They're actually this silver square right here at the bottom of it. There are additional front panel controls under the other flip-down panel, and you'll also see there's a USB port there. We like they include a remote. It is a really simple design and all the buttons fall nicely under your thumb. Now, the additional functionality is beyond this little slide-down panel here. Like almost all Blu-Ray players coming out in 2009, the BD 370 has Profile 2 compatibility, so you'll be able to play BD Live, internet-enabled features on some new Blu-Ray movies. And it also has onboard decoding for Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master audio. In addition, it also has some other internet-enabled video services such as Netflix streaming and YouTube. If you look around back, you'll see there's an ethernet port, which you'll need to use BD Live features as well as the Netflix and YouTube streaming. The rest of the connectivity is pretty standard. There's an HDMI output. There's also a component video output, which you can use with older HD TVs and Blu-Ray will be outputted at 1080i and DVDs at 480p. Moving onto performance, the image quality on the BD 370 isn't quite as good as some of the other entry-level players on the market. It didn't do a great job with the test patterns that we threw at it. Also on DVDs, it failed some of our standard tests. On the upside, it did do better at disc loading and operational speed. Altogether, the LG BD 370 has a great set of features, including Netflix and YouTube functionality at an entry-level cost. The commendable picture quality of Sony's entry-level 120Hz-equipped LCD makes it a very good value.
The Panasonic DMP-BD35 represents the best value in standalone Blu-ray players, with excellent image quality, a comprehensive feature set, and a price that's significantly lower than the PS3.
Bose's entry-level Companion 2 Series II speakers offer good bass and dual inputs--but they're not the best-sounding PC speakers in their price class.

The good: Streams Netflix and YouTube; Profile 2.0 compatible; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential; relatively quick load times.
The bad: Competitors offer better image quality on Blu-ray and DVD; no Wi-Fi option.
The bottom line: LG's entry-level Blu-ray player packs Netflix and YouTube at a reasonable price, but the BD370's image quality is a step below the best.
