>> Hi. I'm David Katzmaier with CNET, and this is the LG LH90 series. There's a 47 and a 55-inch in the series. This is the 47-inch here. This is LG's highest end LCD for now. It's got LED backlighting with local dimming. That's really what makes it a lot more expensive than comparable-sized LCD TVs. The LED backlight basically means that behind this TV, there's a whole bunch of different LEDs, and they can be turned on or off or dimmed selectively depending on what's on the screen. So you can get nice, deep black levels with excellent contrast. But before we get to that, let's talk about the styling. This TV does look relatively unique in person. It's kind of flows. There's a glossy black, but in person, it's got this kind of transparent border around that edge that's smoked a little blue. And along the bottom, the stand has kind of a nice silver accent, so all things considered, it's one of the slicker looking TVs on the market, if a tab bit bulbous in person. The TV has plenty of features, although it lacks interactive capability. But LG makes up for it with plenty of picture adjustments. You can go into the menu and select a THX mode, which is surprisingly not as accurate as the other THX modes we've seen in the past. But that's good because LG does have a lot of other ways to adjust the picture. There's a couple of expert modes. You can go in and play with the most extensive color temperature adjustment available today, as well as an extensive color management system. So if you really like tweaking the TV, this LG is for you. But again, THX mode not so great on this set. On the back panel, there is plenty of inputs: three HDMI, two component video, and a PC input. The side panel adds a fourth HDMI input, so lots of connectivity here. We mentioned at the top the LEDs, and they really do make this TV one of the best performing LCDs we've tested this year. The black levels are excellent. It does have that nice, deep, incredibly inky black, especially when you turn down the lights, but black levels do fluctuate a tiny bit, but again, very good black levels, on par with the best plasmas and LCDs we've tested. The color accuracy, again, after adjustment, extremely good on this set, so again, you can play around and get color that's pretty close to perfect on this TV if you do the right adjustments. And the video processing is very good. Again, it can do 1080P 24, although we weren't big fans of the smooth dejutter processing, which you cannot separate from the 240 hertz processing on this TV, so that's kind of a knock against it. But otherwise, it's a very good set. On the down side, like a lot of LED TVs we've seen, the off-angle performance on this set isn't that great when you go one or two spaces on the couch to either side, those black levels get a lot lighter.
