Lenovo unveils the Windows 8 ThinkPad Helix Video
Lenovo unveils the Windows 8 ThinkPad Helix Video Transcript
I'm Dan Ackerman here at CES 2013 and one of the new Windows 8 convertible/hybrid laptop Ultrabook, whatever you wanna call that product is the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix. Now, this looks like a typical Ultrabook. It's actually gotten an 11-inch screen; however, like a lot of the hybrid style devices we've seen, the [unk] button and the screen pops off, that means the CPU and SSD are here and the top of it becomes a tablet, but you can plug this back in backwards and that gives you an option of having what they call as stand mode icon, kind of a kiosk mode where you can set the system off like this, which actually makes it really good for showing power points, for playing videos, and of course, you can fold it down and have what Lenovo calls a tablet plus mode where you get the smaller, you know, form factor of a tablet, but you get some additional battery life because there's actual battery built into the keyboard base itself. And of course, if you wanna turn it back into a regular Ultrabook style laptop, you just put it down like this. Get pop the screen back off. It put it back on correctly and there you go. This should be available in June 2013 and start at $1499 with a core i5 CPU goes up to a core i7, which is a lot more powerful than a lot of the Intel atom-based tablets that we see. The budget-minded small-business-targeted Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 14 does its job as a solidly-performing laptop and finally throws in a DVD drive, but it's a bit too chunky in its larger size compared to svelte competitors.
Senior Editor Dan Ackerman takes a CNET Labs tour to explain how he and his colleagues examine (and compare) laptops and desktops.
With a relatively affordable starting price and a new design, the ThinkPad Edge loosens up the ThinkPad look--but losing an optical drive keeps it a yard short of being a top-choice compact business laptop.
The new ThinkPad X1 Carbon claims to be the world's lightest 14-inch laptop, and it has a premium feel that few ultrabooks can match.
An education-targeted 11-inch laptop? Yes, and no: Lenovo's impact-resistant ultraportable is really just last year's ThinkPad x120e in a new suit.
