>> Hi I'm Michelle Thatcher, senior associate editor for CNET.com. And today we're looking at the Thinkpad X61S. And in my mind the S stands for sport, cause this is a sporty little number. Look at how thin this Thinkpad is. It, it weighs less than four pounds obviously, and it's so light. I've carried it in my bag for several days now, and I've barely noticed it was there. Being an ultra portable, this Thinkpad has a twelve point one inch display to keep its form factor really nice and small. Now a lot of ultra portables we've seen lately have had wide screen displays, but this one sticks to the four to three standard aspect ratio, which is pretty good for doing your basic work, keeping up with email. But if you want to watch movies, this is not going to be any good for you cause the movie gets letterboxed. With most ultra portables you're gonna sacrifice a little bit in terms of keyboard comfort in order to get your smaller case. But with Thinkpads the thing I really like about this model in particular, the keyboard is really comfortable to type on, even though it's a bit smaller than full size. The Thinkpad X61S is a corporate laptop, and so it's got a few extra security features for corporate users, including this fingerprint reader, and a hard drive that's encrypted. One potential drawback for those of you who like to watch DVDs or listen to CDs on the road is that you'll notice there's no built in disc drive into this system. If you need a disc drive, Winova [assumed spelling] does sell a media slice that clicks onto the bottom, adds a little bit of thickness and weight. You'll also notice that our particular review unit has this extended battery that adds a little bit of weight, and also makes it a bit deeper on, in terms of measurements. It lasted a pretty good amount of time, although I should note that the previous version of this laptop, the X60S, received our Editor's Choice award in large part because its battery lasted more than eight hours. But this one did not even make the eight hour mark, so it didn't win the Editor's Choice award.
