Lenovo's 27-inch multi-user PC Video Transcript

Hi. I'm Rich Brown for CNET. We're here to at CS, meeting with Lenovo. And here we have their brand new Horizon Table PC. As you can see, this looks like a pretty standard all-in-one. It's a nice big 27-inch screen, it's got a full touchscreen of course, and it's running Windows 8, but you can run Lenovo's new ORA interface, which is designed pretty much primarily for multiple users to use the system. You can lay it down flat and you can see here. There's a control wheel, it gives you access to launch all kinds of different apps, games, video, etcetera. You can take things out and under the screen pretty easily. Lenovo has also put a lot of effort into game development and other apps for the system. So, this is a new game from Lenovo, designed for four players at once. And the system actually comes with these joysticks among other accessories. And here, you plug them down the screen and you can control your guide and it actually works pretty well. And the other accessories, there's an air hockey paddle right here, and then this one is actually pretty cool, it's a die and the idea is that you can roll it on the screen, and for game that supports it, it'll recognize the die input. And you can actually use it on any surface. It doesn't have to land on the screen or to register the die. So, Lenovo has put a lot of effort into the app store for the system and it's gonna launch with over 3,000 apps simply designed for multiple user input. So, one thing that's actually pretty unique about the system, on top of the multi-user input and the various accessories is that, Lenovo has a couple different modes and mind for the way you might use it. So, here's one accessory set, this might not come out in the U.S., it's still sort of to be determined, but as you can see it's a table interface, it's designed to walkup and use it. You might also noticed that there's no power cable and it's nice because it has a battery. Now, Lenovo estimates the system will run for about 2 hours, of course, you can plug it on the wall if you need to. But Lenovo has another idea in mind. Now this is just a concept and it may not go on sale at all, but as you can see, it has big table design and it's really designed to be more a piece of furniture than an actual system. Now, the PC folds down in there and it really sort of provides that unique experience that we've never seen in a computer before. So, this is not the first new Windows 8 on one to use a battery, we've seen another from Sony, but this is certainly the biggest. It has the same low power parts in it to hold extend battery life. And as you can see from the side, it looks actually pretty thin. Now, don't imagine that you would really use this as a tablet necessarily and it's not maybe the most mobile thing in terms of just walking around your house, but you can certainly move if you want to. And overall, this really seems to be a pretty unique design. Its' gonna start at $999 in the U.S. when it launches later this year. Prices will scale up though as you add higher NCP's. I'm Rich Brown, this is the Lenovo Horizon Table PC.

Lenovo IdeaCentre A600

The heart of Lenovo's IdeaCentre A600 is in the right place, offering a 21.5-inch LCD-based all-in-one for less than $800. But a faster competitor and a careless design turns us off from this particular A600 configuration. You might consider a different A600 build if you can live with the design, but we can't recommend the $749 version.

The Lenovo IdeaCentre K330 is a decent attempt to compete with other budget gaming PCs, but a few configuration misses prevent a stronger recommendation. It's best for mainstream shoppers looking for a combination of basic 3D power and Blu-ray playback capability.

Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon 27 (Core i5) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The large screen and lie-flat design make the Lenovo Horizon 27 a fun family PC with lots of casual gaming potential. It includes several gaming accessories and has a custom user interface, Aura.

The bad: The heavy, clunky kickstand can get in the way, there's a little sluggishness with some of the software, and battery life is way too short for a game of Monopoly.

The bottom line: Tabletop PCs may not be fully ready for the mainstream, but this coffee-table-size version from Lenovo is fun to use, and doubles as a solid all-in-one desktop.
