Laptops for the holidays Video Transcript

Speaker 1: If you are in the market for a laptop this year, you probably are actually in the market as something as close as possible to an Apple laptop. Dan Ackerman Series are seen at laptop guru. Speaker 2: Now, Dan the only thing that we care about this year in laptop it seems, are laptop that kinda feel like Tablets, light and instant on. Speaker 1: Things like that and Apple MacBook Air, they are super popular, super thin, super light. Very affordable. Speaker 2: Look at this guy, it's almost like a knife when it's closed. I'm afraid I'm gonna cut myself. Speaker 1: And that's one of the most popular ones, but it's very expensive. It's about $1,200, $1,300. Speaker 2: That's an Apple thing. Now, you've got 3 Windows based alternatives here. Let's start with this one from Acer. How does it stack up against the MacBook Air that everybody wants? Speaker 1: It's less expensive than the MacBook Air... Speaker 2: Good. Speaker 1: Still just about as thin. They kinda cut some corners kinda plasticky construction and a cheaper and slower hard drive, so you're gonna have to give up a little bit to save some money. Speaker 2: It still can do everything that MacBook Air can do? Right? Speaker 1: It is a perfectly fully functional 13 inch laptop. You can do anything you pretty much need do on it. Speaker 2: Now, this guy here from Lenovo. Well known for the many, many laptops they make. A favorite for folks in business... Speaker 1: The ThinkPad. Speaker 2: Carrying this with the ThinkPads. How does it stack up to a MacBook Air? Speaker 1: Well, this has a really nice design. It's also just about as thin, but it tries to look like it's own machine and has kind of a unique look to it, which I like. They don't cut too many corners on it, which is great, but it's just about as expensive as that MacBook Air. And for one that beat with Apple, it can be just about as good and just about as expensive. Speaker 2: You gotta beat them on something, right? Much better technology, which is tough... Speaker 1: Or much less expensive. Speaker 2: Much lower price. Speaker 1: Yeah. This last one seems to answer that. Speaker 2: Well, this Toshiba the Z800 series. This also kinda look and feel like a lot like the MacBook Air. Has the same super fast, really expensive hard drive in it, but it's only 899. We're trying to get a great deal for what you get. The design is not quite as elegant as the Air, but if you're looking to get something that's very similar and not too make too many compromises, I like this a lot. Speaker 1: All of these are what are called UltraBooks... Speaker 2: That's a new term.. Speaker 1: A new term, but what does it mean? Speaker 2: I think it means a laptop that's really think that usually has a really fast hard drive in it and that you can use for everyday you know computing, but you can still around everyday because it's thin enough and light enough, you're not gonna feel like it's weighing you down. Speaker 1: These kinds of machines that weigh so little and they are really light, these used to cost a lot more even a year, a year and a half ago. Speaker 2:That's the thing, the $2,000 laptop from years ago are now 899, 999, 1,000 bucks. Speaker 1: But they are good everyday machine. I'm not buying something that's kind of just a travel gimmick. Speaker 2: Everything we do, e-mail, watching HD video online, even editing photos in Photoshop, you can do without with any of these. Speaker 1: Okay. Good deal. Dan. Thank you. Speaker 2: Thank you.
