>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. I'm here at the CTIA 2009 show in Las Vegas, and want to show you a couple of Kiocera phones that were announced today. This is the Kiocera Laylo M1400. It is a pretty basic phone, has just VGA camera, just really for making calls and maybe sending text messages. But it's a pretty simple design as well. It is a slider phone, see the phone slides up just like that, exposes the keypad. Keypad is pretty tactile actually. A lot of slider phones you know, have that very flat keypad, so it's nice to see one that's just a little tactile, was able to dial by feel. The display is nice. Usually on lower end phones we don't see a display that's really high resolution. But this looked good, it was pretty bright, had a lot of color. Also, while the display's actual frame size doesn't extend all the way to the edge of the phone, the plastic that covers it does, and it's kind of rounded. So it looks nice, nice effect, has a nice feel in the hand as well. Slider mechanism feels pretty nice, not too stiff, not too sturdy. There is the VGA camera lens here on the back. You won't see a self portrait mirror, but what is interesting is on the back of the slider you will see a full mirror. As described to me, this was for a couple of things, for also using the camera, also using as a vanity mirror, maybe for checking your teeth before an interview, putting on your makeup, anything like that. So pretty unique, never seen that before. Just a couple things on the side. There is the micro USB port, over here there's a volume rocker as well, and a 2.5 millimeter headset jack. Features are pretty basic as I said. There is just VGA camera, messaging, personal organizer, speaker phone, but really this phone is about making calls.
