Hi. I'm David Carnoy, executive editor for CNET.com and I'm here with the Klipsch X7i in-ear headphones. This is the step up model to Klipsch's popular S42i in-ear headphones and it does have the same Apple 3-button remote so this is geared towards Apple devices. That remote will not function fully with Android devices though the mic will. Like that S42i. This has a flat core design and really the signature here though is the ceramic earpieces. They have this nice very polish Onyx like earpieces and they're supposed to be durable and they have a balanced armature design. They also have a kind of audio file profile with a well-balanced detailed sound that does not over accentuate the bass. That means if you're a bass lover you probably will not love these headphones. When I compare them to the S42is which cost half the price at around $100. These guys do sound more detailed. They do offer a little bit tighter base and overall a sound clear so they are a better headphone. However, I would not say they're twice as good as the step down model. That's where the problem, how these in terms of the value equation, there's a lot of in-ear headphones in that kind of $50 to $150 price range. And this a little bit higher than that so it really had to wow me. And I just wanted a little bit more out of them. A little bit more detail. A little bit more dynamic open feel to them. They're good, very decent earphones but when we start getting up into that $200 price range you start to demand a little bit more from these earphones. So if you can find them for $50 to $75 less, they do tend to go down in price overtime. These are certainly worth considering. I really like the design. I thought they were really comfortable. Klipsch is known for its oval-shaped earpiece that do give you a tight seal and I didn't have a problem wearing these for long periods of time. Klipsch Image X7i (Black) Review
The good: The comfortable Klipsch Image X7i in-ear headphones have sleek and durable ceramic earpieces, offer good, clean sound with lots of detail, and feature the same tangle-resistant flat cord found on the step-down S4i II model. An integrated Apple-friendly remote/microphone and a nice, compact carrying case are included.
The bad: Bass lovers probably won't be satisfied by the amount of bass; inline-remote features aren't compatible with most non-Apple smartphones.
The bottom line: While their price is a little too steep, the X7i earphones are slick-looking and comfortable, and deliver clean, detailed sound.
