I'm David Carnoy, executive editor for CNET.com and I'm here with the Klipsch S4 II. These are inner ear headphones and they're very popular inner ear headphones and they've been highly rated by CNET in the past. Klipsch really hasn't done much to change it, but the one big difference is the core design. Klipsch has gone to a flat core design. The earlier model had some complaints about durability especially for some of the sporting activities. The core did hold up so well. It was very thin. This was a flat cord tangle resistant- and other than that, Klipsch really hasn't changed anything; the sound, these had very good sound for the money. These are sub-$100 earphones. This model here, the S4 I has a built-in inline remote with a microphone. That's $99 and the step-down model, simply the S4 II has no inline remote and that's $79. From a performance standpoint, what's interesting about these Klipsch earphones is that one of the key to them is the ear tip itself and also design of the earphone. It just is a comfortable earphone and it really gets a tight cylinder and Klipsch has some of the best ear tips in the business. They're just more conical-shaped and that really helps with the sound particularly the base. I personally don't think these are that much better than competing models. They're very- they sound very good, but what happens with this Klipsches is since you'd get such a nice tight seal, they really do deliver the best sound for what they can do. So, again, the key design change here is that flat cord design. Everything else is the same including the sound. So Klipsch has basically made a very good earphone even better. I will say this, if you are into doing sporting activities with these, Klipsch also makes the rugged S4 I that's a sports model and it has a sweat resistant design and that is probably a better choice if you are using these at the gym or for running. Klipsch Image S4i II (White) Review
The good: The Klipsch Image S4i II in-ear headphones have the same impressive sound and fit as the original S4i model but they're more durable and have a tangle-resistant flat cord. There's an integrated Apple-friendly remote/microphone and they come with a nice, compact carrying case.
The bad: Opt for other models in the S4 line if you want Android compatibility or better sweat resistance; bass lovers probably won't be satisfied by the amount of bass.
The bottom line: The Klipsch Image S4i II in-ear headphones add a new, more durable tangle-resistant flat cord while retaining the S4 model's very respectable sound quality and superior comfort.
