>> Hey I'm Donald Bell, Senior Editor for Digital Audio and MP3, and today we're taking a first look at the Kicker ZK500 Zune Speaker Dock. The Kicker is one of only a handful of speakers made from the Zune MP3 Player and it's one of the loudest ones we've tested so far. It includes two 5-inch woofers along with two 3 quarter-inch tweeters and a unique 6-inch base reflex port on the back. The whole thing is powered by a total of 40 watts and as the name would imply, cranking this thing up would kick you in the pants. Now, aside from its relatively big speakers, powerful Amp, and menacing design, there aren't a ton of features on the ZK500. You get Volume Control, Base and Treble EQ, Aux Input, an AV Output, a remote control, and a cool place to charge your Zune. But, you don't get an FM radio, battery power, or an alarm clock. Also, it's kind of a bummer that there's no way to center the smaller flash-based Zunes in the dock. Still, from 250 dollars street price, you're getting a powerful speaker system for your Zune that sounds great and looks pretty bad ass. I'm Donald Bell and that was a first look at the Kicker ZK500. Kicker ZK500 Review
The good: The Kicker ZK500 is one of the loudest speaker systems designed for the Microsoft Zune MP3 player, and it includes audio and video outputs, an auxiliary audio input, and a remote control.
The bad: The Kicker ZK500 doesn't include an alarm clock, radio, or battery power, and its sound quality lacks at modest volume levels.
The bottom line: The Kicker ZK500 Zune speaker system is both physically and sonically intimidating, but it doesn't come cheap.
