>> I'm Nicole Lee, Associate Editor for CNET.com. And this is first look at the Jabra STONE. As the name implies, it looks a little bit like a stone, its pebble-like design. As you can see here, it is a headset with a portable charger on one. To take the headset out of the charger and reach underneath the stone and push the headset out. When you do so, the headset automatically powers on. You may not see any controls on the front here, but they're actually hidden underneath the front surface. The multifunction button is hidden underneath the Jabra logo here. And you change the volume by sliding your finger up and down the base. Behind the headset are two LED indicators for the battery status and the Bluetooth connection status. The earpiece is quite small, and it sits very gently at the opening of the ear. The headset slips on and off the ear easily. The ear, as you can see here, is very flexible. However, the headset can only be worn on the right ear. By itself, the headset only has two hours of battery life. So you need to carry the charger around. The charger adds an extra six hours for a total of eight hours of battery life. When you put the headset back into the charger, it automatically shuts off and begins charging. We set up the Jabra STONE for a few days, and we can see the call quality was okay, but not too great. It didn't do too well with very noisy situations, for example. We also wish the fit was a little bit more snug. The Jabra STONE is available for around $130 retail. Jabra Stone Review
The good: The Jabra Stone has a one-of-a-kind design that combines a headset with a portable charger. The headset fits easily over the ear and is small enough not to be noticed. Features include multipoint technology and A2DP streaming.
The bad: The Jabra Stone's controls are difficult to use; we wish it had a snugger fit; and the call quality could be improved. It also fits around only the right ear.
The bottom line: While we love the style, portability, and feature set of the Jabra Stone, it does suffer from a few design and performance issues.
