>> Looking for a unique spin on the user interface? I'm Jasmine France and we're taking a look at the iReverse Spin, a portable media player today, and the cool thing about this player is that it has a very unique user interface, it has a toggle wheel on the side here in which you can spin to navigate among menu options and you can push down on it to go through menus. Along with that it also offers a touch-screen interface, so this is a competitor for the Apple iPod Touch. It supports a lot of music formats including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, 8th [assumed spelling], FLAC, ASF and WMAY and that includes protected WMAY from subscription services and the like. It also supports photo and video as you would expect from any media player that's its [inaudible]. Along with the standard multi media support you do get text viewing and FM radio and flash game support, so those are some extras that might be interesting. It has built in Bluetooth so you can connect Bluetooth headphones for a wireless listening experience, that's something a lot of people are after now a days. It is a really nicely designed device; it has a really nice feel to it. It's made out of a silver magnesium so it is gonna cost you a pretty penny though for all this innovation. The 4 Gigabyte version of all this player goes for $249 while the 8 Gigabyte goes for $289, so it does go for a premium for this innovation, you do get good sound quality, you do get a lot of features, but for right now I think it's an early adopter type of advice or big iRiver fans or if you're demanding a lot of music format support, that's what would make it worth it. Other than that, you might want to hold off and see if the pricing drops a little bit in the future. I'm Jasmine France and this has been the iReverse Spin. ^M00:01:32 [ Music ]

iRiver Spinn (4GB) Review
Editors' rating
Good

The good: The Iriver Spinn offers a unique, innovative design with a high-quality build. The touch-sensitive display is bright, responsive, and relatively large. The interface is customizable, and the player is packed with desirable features such as built-in Bluetooth, photo and video playback, voice recording, and an FM tuner. A large variety of audio codecs are supported, and there are plentiful sound enhancement options.

The bad: The Iriver Spinn is expensive, and yet it lacks some of the advanced features expected in the price range, such as integrated Wi-Fi or an SD card expansion slot. It maxes out at 8GB and using it isn't immediately easy. Despite the seemingly decent video support, conversion is necessary in most cases.

The bottom line: Until Iriver lowers the price on the Spinn, it will remain a luxury portable media player best suited to an early adopter with a penchant for unique gadgets and a library of lossless music.
