>> When quick image viewing or editing is all you need the small freeware app is a good candidate for the job. I'm Jessica Dolcourt from CNET Download.com with a first look at IrfanView 4.23. With the IrfanView you'll want to pay close attention during set up. You'll have the option to download Google toolbar and Google desktop search as you install and you'll be asked if you want to associate any file extensions to automatically open in an IrfanView. There are about 70 all together and that includes images, audio and video clips. IrfanView isn't by any means pretty, but it does have all the usual image editing tools and a few more besides. You'll be able to crop, resize, make color corrections and apply a spectrum of visual effects to a photo. One of my favorite traits IrfanView's effects browser lets you compare potential changes side by side with the original image before you commit. Red eye reduction on the other hand isn't as effective as it is in rival image editors, but it is fair. For those with a little more ambition and scale, IrfanView offers a range of intermediate and advanced tools. These include batch processing and plug-ins for creating lossless JPEGs. IrfanView will also playback audio tracks and video clips and can turn your finished photos into a slideshow that lets you add background music, loop the show and hide the cursor. You can also burn the slideshow to disc or export it as a window screensaver or as a stand-alone executable. IrfanView is sorely innate of a visual overhaul. Although you can do everything using the menu in shortcut keys having a greater visual organization with larger icons could be more intuitive and also more appealing for most users. The application still gets the thumbs up from us though for its medium weight image tweaking options that shouldn't overwhelm novice users and shouldn't bore the more advanced ones. You can get IrfanView 4.23 for free from www.download.com. I'm Jessica Dolcourt, happy editing. ^M00:01:59 [ Music ]
