-What's up? Brian Tong here and welcome to the Apple Byte for all the good and bad side in the world of Apple. To get you up to speed, we're gonna start off with some of the big announcements from WWDC 2011. And for those of you who are already in the know, we'll also show you some brand new features in iOS 5 that you just haven't seen. See we take care of all our Apple Byters. Even better than some of our own staff. Now Steve Jobs came to the stage and launched Apple's iCloud but it wasn't the streaming music service the rumor mills thought it would be. Instead, its' a service that will store your content and data and wirelessly push it to all your iDevices and computers. Now when you purchase music through iTunes, Apps or books, it will pair on all devices and you can read, download them, for no additional charge. But you can't stream the music. Now Photostream allows you to send photos to all devices automatically after you've taken them or imported them from your camera. Mail, contacts, and calendars will be synced across all devices and computers like they currently are and iCloud's backup service will back up everything on your device over Wi-Fi when you plug in to charge the device. Now the big A also announced the iTunes Match music service that will scan your entire hard drive for music either ripped from your own CDs or music you acquired in other ways. Now, for $24.99 a year, it will match the songs up and replace them with a 256 kilobits mp3 version from iTunes that can be stored in the iCloud to download to your devices. But once again, you can't stream the music. So to make this clear, the record industry through this deal with Apple is making money from the billions of pirated songs that have been floating around on the internet instead of nothing. And for them, something is better than nothing. But do you think the artist who created this music are going to see a penny from this? You already know that answer and it's a big fat no. And that's a bad Apple. And just in case you weren't listening, you still can't stream your music. In fact, to show off their compelling offering, Apple provided us with a chart to compare the iCloud with Google and Amazon's music cloud services. They pointed out it takes weeks to upload your music to the cloud song by song. Apple will upgrade your song quality for you and they also show a compelling price point. But they forgot a specific row and this chart, the one that says, "You can stream your music with an internet connection." Now, we also got a first look at 10 new features in iOS 5, so let's do the rapid fire version for a few of the key ones. Notification centers where all your notifications appear, there's an alert at the top of the screen. You can tap on it to go directly to the App or swipe down from the top to see all of them. And you can swipe to respond from the lock screen. Twitter's integrated directly into you iOS, so you can Twit from your photos. Youtube, Maps, and others, plus you can add your location to any Twit if you want someone to hunt you down. Now the most practical iOS update, you could go directly to the camera app from your log screen, take snap shots with the volume up button and that's very helpful for people who keep hitting that home button after you tell them 5 times. Now, Safari on the iPad gets tab browsing, a clean reader mode, to get rid of website as in clutter and a reading list to save articles and read them later. iMessages, Apple's own real time messaging service for iDevice owners and there's plenty of other updates like reminders, Newsstand, multi-touch gestures are back and more but I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't show you some of the hidden features Apple didn't talk about. So let's check them out. Hey guys. Brian Tong here with cnet.com and Apple recently announced some of the new features that we can expect to see in iOS 5 for iDevices when it's released this fall. We have the developer version, so we wanted to show you some of the hidden features in iOS 5 you might not know about. Now customization is always been one of iOS' weaker points and they aren't bringing widgets, but there are other ways to trick out your phone. How about keyboard short cuts? Go on to general and your keyboard settings and you can now create a shortcut you type in that will display a phrase to make life a whole lot easier. Apple also improved the accessibility options that can be helpful for all of us. You can turn on the LED flash for alerts, but you can also turn on custom vibrations on your iPhone. Now it's not what you think so. You guys can stop giggling. Now go to sounds and find vibration patterns. You have the ability to enter and use premade ones or create your own custom vibration by tapping on the screen for a contact that, you know, is more important than others. Now on the iPad, you can also use a custom gesture to open different menus on your screen by turning on Assistive Touch. At the moment you can't assign it to unlock your screen or launch any apps but is probably coming in the future. And the multitest gestures we've seen from previous builds have returned in iOS 5. Now notifications center is one of the big revamps and you can create the alert style if it's more important, the option to view it in your log screen and how many notifications show up at 1 time. You also have the option to purchase more ring tones or alert tones in the preferences. If you check out the photo app, it allows you to create albums on your iDevice and also move photos into different albums. Safari, the web browser has a nice option that allows you to open a new page in the background instead of interrupting the current window you're viewing and the weather app has a panel for your local weather instead of adding a new one for every city you visit. And for all you sketchy people with something to hide, you will now be able to delete individual calls from your call list. Plus one of the biggest ones you can't see right now, iOS 5 supports 1080p video playback which sets them up for better video output directly to TV sets and high-resolution displays for future iDevices. Now there's plenty of other features buried in here but we wanted to show you few of them that you can expect to see in the fall. Now there's still no updated Google Maps with turn-by-turn directions and still no voice-to-text or voice-search integration, 2 big fails from Apple there. Now the big news from Mac OS 10.7 line is that it will be able sometime in July, costs $29.99, but it will only be available through the Mac App Store. You'll be able to install on any computer that you have, authorized with your Apple ID. Now if you don't use the Mac App Store, you'll be left entirely out of line and maybe Apple doesn't really care about you. But what they do care about is building a new corporate campus in Cupertino, California that looks like something from the future. Steve Jobs was on hand to make for one of the most giddy-filled Cupertino City council meetings ever to describe the spaceship-like shape building plans. Now I wonder if they'll be a fountain with a Steve Jobs statue that meets at the center where you know people will make wishes by flipping pennies into its water. Now Steve talked about their expertise building the largest curved glass structures in the world, Oh, and the fact that they're also the largest taxpayer in Cupertino. Now this is a no-brainer for Cupertino and it really takes balls to ask Steve for free Wi-Fi. Well, kudos to you Cupertino. This is the city where Steve will get anything he wants. It's also the city that was home to popular actor, Aaron Eckhart. You might recognize him from such films as The Dark Knight. Then, there's Los Angeles Lakers star and current Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Kurt Rambis.
