>> Hey, it's Justin Yu, Assistant Editor for CNET.com giving you a First Look at the Iomega eGo Helium external hard drive. And the first thing you notice about this device is that it looks like it was designed from Apple's McBook laptops, specifically the MacBook Air. Iomega listened to a lot of complaints about the Air's tiny hard drive capacities and created the eGo Helium drive to provide these users with more storage. Now it only comes in one 320-gig capacity, but chances are if you own a MacBook Air you're gonna want as much extra space as possible. Now the case actually matches the MacBook Air perfectly. It's got this rounded edges and the outside is pretty bare except for this USB 2.0 port and the small light next to it that glows when a data is being transferred to and from the drive. Now, less is better in some cases, but you think that a drive cater to Mac users would have a firewire port, but not dice, you only get USB. Apple fan boys and girls will however be happy that the drive comes formatted with the Apple friendly HFS plus file system for total plug and play access with Macs. PC users however will have to format it back to NTFS to make it work. So we tested the eGo Helium for data transfer and also calculated the cost per gigabyte compared to other external hard drives, we found that the Helium keeps up with Iomega's low cost reputation especially considering of large capacity. Now we were also impressed with the file transfer speed and it successfully beat our current Editors' Choice winning external hard drive. So, if you own a MacBook, MacBook Air or are just aching for more storage space, we definitely recommend the Iomega eGo Helium Drive. I'm Justin Yu and this is the Iomega eGo Helium external hard drive. ^M00:01:32 [ Music ]
