>> Hi, I'm Jasmine France, Associate Editor for CNET.com. I'm here today with the Insignia NSDVB4G and what that basically is is a mouthful of model number for what is essentially the Insignia image viewer and mp3 player with Bluetooth built in, hence the B in the name. And actually you can see the little Bluetooth stamp on the front here. This is essentially exactly the same as the Insignia mp3 player and image viewer that we reviewed a little bit earlier this year except it's very dark blue, which is hard to see. The other one was black and then, of course, it has the little Bluetooth here and it has Bluetooth built in. Now the important thing with Bluetooth for this device is that it will connect to Bluetooth headphones, which is great if you're just trying to disconnect from any wires. However, you cannot use the Bluetooth to transfer songs between the player and the computer. So that's kind of a bummer. Also a bummer is that these are actually the headphones that come with it, which obviously these are not Bluetooth headphones. For our purposes we actually got a hold of these Motorola S805 headphones and they work actually really well with the player. So 160, 150, if you want the Bluetooth it's about a 300 dollar commitment. As for the player itself it's a decent player. I mean considering, you know, the value for the player itself, 160 for 4GB. It only comes with four. That alone is a decent value but it's packed with features. It has an FM radio, an image viewer. You can also view videos on here although they don't look that great but, I mean, with a small screen like this you can't really hope for much. The body is also, has a nice feel to it. It doesn't feel like super cheap or anything but it is kind of big for a Flash player. So if you want something super compact this probably isn't the player for you. As for the interface it's actually really easy to use, pretty impressive. Sometimes with these less expensive players you'll find that the interface is a little bit to be desired but all the menu options are indicated by these icons, which is really nice and you just kind of scroll around in a circle with the wheel here. It's got the center select and play pause button, a menu key and a power button. On the top you have hold switch and microSD for adding more memory, which is always a plus. The back, a removable battery. Then you have standard menu USB over here for syncing, headphone jack and then there's actually an extra headphone jack on the bottom if you want to listen with another person. This also is used for line in recording if you choose to do that. All in all a really decent player, I mean, considering the price and everything and, you know, it does [unclear]. So yeah, it's a really feature packed player with good value for the price. I'm Jasmine France and this has been the Insignia mp3 player and image viewer and Bluetooth. ^M00:02:29 [ Music ]

Insignia MP3 Player & Image Viewer (4GB, Bluetooth) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Insignia 4GB Video MP3 Player is one of the first MP3 players to offer built-in Bluetooth. It's also a good value and offers several desirable features such as an FM radio, video playback capability, subscription music support, and a removable, rechargeable battery. Plus, it's easy to use and includes a microSD card slot for adding more memory, and the 8-hour battery life for video is highly impressive.

The bad: The Insignia 4GB Video MP3 Player doesn't include compatible Bluetooth headphones, it doesn't have the best sound quality, and image quality could be better. It's bulky for a flash player.

The bottom line: Thanks to built-in Bluetooth, an affordable price, a wide array of desirable features and a graphically pleasing, user-friendly interface, Insignia 4GB Video MP3 Player is a solid choice for budget-conscious users, first-timers, and wire-haters.
