>> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we'll take a First Look at the Huawei M328. This is a new phone for MetroPCS service. Huawei is a Chinese company that really doesn't have a big presence here in the U.S., so it's always interesting to look at a new manufacturer and see what they have. Like MetroPCS's line-up, this phone is pretty basic, not a lot going on here, but it's pretty functional, the design is pretty user-friendly, it's easy to use. There were some design tweaks the phone could use, but on the whole, very basic phone with decent sound quality. On the front it does have a glossy surface. It's very prone to smudges and finger prints, so you want to watch that. We were constantly cleaning the phone. There's not really a lot here. There's no camera on the phone, so you don't see any camera lens of course. The external display is a little small. I wasn't crazy about the vertical orientation. Either you read it vertically or you're switching the phone on its side like this. Inside, there is internal display, pretty small for the phone size. The menus are pretty easy to use, easily laid out, you could find everything pretty quickly. Navigation controls, they are flat with the surface of the phone. It's pretty spacious. Keypad buttons, we weren't totally in love. This is the central column here is different colored. It's a little bit recessed as well, but I didn't have any problems texting or dialing. Inside the phone there is a basic organizer functions, there's the speakerphone, there is a voice recorder, but that's really about it, not a whole lot going on here. Call quality was fine. I found the volume to be a little bit low. Speakerphone is pretty loud, but the sound gets pretty distorted at the highest volumes. I'm Kent German and this is Huawei M328. ^M00:01:32 [ Music ]

Huawei M328 (MetroPCS) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The Huawei M328 offers solid call quality and a simple design.

The bad: The Huawei M328 lacks a dedicated speakerphone key and its keypad feels a tad cheap. Its front face attracts fingerprints by the ton.

The bottom line: The Huawei M328 offers decent sound quality in a functional, easy-to-use design. Just don't expect a lot of features.
