>> hi I'm Bonnie Cha, senior editor at CNET.com and today we are taking a first look at the HTC Cavalier S630. So this is the unofficial upgrade to the T-Mobile Dash HTC and T-Mobile haven't confirmed or denied it. This is an unlocked version and kind of revamped the design on that; I'm a huge fan of it. It's a little blockier and on paper ware all the numbers are the same but I think it's, it feels like a little thicker. It's also got this new jogger strip right here that lets you adjust the volume by swiping an up-and-down. You can also double click on these two buttons here to back out of menus and to launch your inbox, but from them pretty temperamental, they didn't always work although time, so that was frustrating. The keyboard is pretty much the same, small keys but you'll get used to them over time. They've also upgraded the camera to two mega pixel camera and the big news is they've added 3-D support as well as a faster processor, so this is a really fast device, great for surfing the web as well as e-mail. Like I said it hasn't been officially announced but you can purchase an unlocked version now for about five hundred and sixty dollars, but if you want to wait and save a little money, hopefully it will be coming out soon. Good call quality, speakerphone is a little weak but not too bad so it's worth the upgrade. I'm Bonnie Cha and this has been the HTC Cavalier S630. ^M00:01:18 [ Music ]

HTC Cavalier S630 (unlocked) Review

Editors' rating

The good: The HTC Cavalier S630 improves on its predecessor by adding 3G support, a faster processor, and a 2-megapixel camera. It comes out of the box with Windows Mobile 6, push e-mail, integrated Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

The bad: The new "Joggr" control is temperamental, and the Cavalier S630's QWERTY keyboard is smallish. Speakerphone quality also could be better. Also, we wish the camera included a flash.

The bottom line: Though we're not particularly keen on the design changes, the HTC Cavalier S630, with 3G support and a more powerful processor, is a worthy upgrade to the T-Mobile Dash. Mobile professionals will be well-served by this smart phone.
