Hi. I'm Justin Yu from CNET.com. This is your first look at the HP Photosmart 5510E All in One Printer. The sub $1000 market is a pretty competitive one for HP and this one competes well in terms of print quality and speed, but homes and offices that take their printing seriously can get more features with other printers with a little extra shopping around. Taking quick physical survey of the the 5510. It combines a printer, scanner and copier into a pretty low profile design, so I'm gonna occupy a lot of space on your desktop. The 2.4 inch display on the front is touch compatible and it features a virtual buttons on the right side that right side that help with navigation and on screen selections. HP also makes it even easier on the user,by only eliminating the relevant buttons on any given action. Like I said its only a hundred bucks , so I'm not really surprised to see that it doesn't include and auto document feeder on top or double sided printing either, but I should note that the design does fall through on its pretty 80 sheet paper input capacity. So, by comparison, the HP Stylus NX430 can actually hold 20 more pages of its reservoir which makes a big difference if you are high volume printer. In addition to Apple Air Print and Google Cloud Print compatibility, this one also features HP's remote printing technology called E-print that lets you send jobs from any connected device straight to the printer. All you have to do to set it up is connect the printer to your computer through WiFi and HP will tell you its unique e-mail address that will come with every single printer. In our test labs the Photosmart 5510 registered slightly faster than the average multi-function at the $100 price point, but its still did thrill behind the stylish NX430. Black text quality does look a little better than the NX430, but I will recommend either printer if output resolution is your first priority. Over all the HP Photosmart 5510 is a worthwhile purchase if you can get at a discount from the $100 price tag, but if we're just talking less here , the EPSON Stylus NX430 is not only a better performer, but it also has more features that won't have you constantly getting up to refill the papertray. Aside from the never-ending name, the HP Photosmart Premium TouchSmart Web All-in-One Printer looks good and prints high-quality photos at competitive speeds. We also appreciate effort put into the downloadable applications for the interactive touch screen, but the innovation is offset by a hefty price tag. The good: The HP Photosmart 5510 multifunction printer occupies minimum space on your desktop and features an intuitive touch screen with virtual buttons that illuminate to eliminate clutter.
The bad: The Photosmart 5510 doesn't support HP's print-centric Web apps, and competing printers offer more versatility with manual double-sided printing and increased paper input capacity.
The bottom line: The HP Photosmart 5510 all-in-one printer demonstrates reliable performance with excellent scores in both speed and quality tests, but falters in its feature offering. For people who need more than just speeds and feeds, I prefer the Epson Stylus NX430 instead.
