>> Hi, I'm Rich Brown, Senior Editor for CNET.com. Today we're gonna talk about the HP Pavilion Slim Line S3020 NPC. This system is actually an Editor's Choice winner. We liked it for it's config, it's price and it's overall design. We think it's a really sharp looking system. The slim line design itself isn't that new to HP, but the glossy black panel and the overall sharp looks are. We gave this particular model an award because it's overall value was really pretty outstanding. Now up here you'll see a 15 and 1 media card reader. Behind this door is a multi-format DVD burner. It's still standard depths so it's no Blue Ray or HD DVD. Down here you can see a slot for one of HP's pocket media drives. That's a removable storage drive that HP sells as an option. Gives you a little more hard drive space which is good since there's not a lot of room inside this small case. So they're both smaller systems. You can see there is not a lot of room to add parts in here. You do get two expansion slots, but they're both half height which means you tend to get lower powered cards and things like that in there. Which means you can add a semi decent graphics card which should give you a little boost to gaming and video performance. Otherwise, this really isn't a gaming box. We're barely able to play Quake when we tried to run it on our test. So as we said, there's no room for an extra hard drive. You can see the drive kind of buried under here, underneath the DVD burner. So pretty hard to get at, not really too friendly for working inside. Underneath here too, you'll find the memory slots. There's two, both currently occupied, but we'd probably upgrade those first actually since they only have a gig of memory. The system runs Windows Vista Premium, which runs fine in it's current config, but it could probably benefit from a little more memory. But at the very least, this system has an AMD Athalon 3800 plus duo core processor. It's pretty good for a budget system that's you know, around 600 dollars. Gives you pretty good overall performance and you know, it's about what you can expect from a system in this class. Finally, one of the things we like most about this system is it's integrated wireless networking capability. Very few systems in this class have that and duo core CPU in this general collection of parts. That makes this system our Editor's Choice. So I'm Rich Brown. This is the HP Pavilion Slim Line S3020 NPC. ^M00:02:12 [ music ]
