>> Hi, I'm Rich Brown, Senior Editor for CNET.com. Today we're going to take a look at the HP Pavilion a6700y. This is a budget price system. It's a fixed configuration that you'll find in various retail stores. It's pretty much a bare bones, kind of work at a desktop. It has an AMD quad-core chip in it, but overall we find it's not really the most exciting PC out there. It's relatively slow on most applications. Although it does have Wi-Fi, we sort of wish that HP had opted for another option instead of that. More memory, faster CPU would probably have gone a little bit further in making this system more useful. So, as you can see the front looks pretty basic. You get a mini card reader up top, DVD burner down here and behind this door a few ports, USB and the standard audio. And around back you'll see it's pretty simple as well. Another set of analog audio ports for 7.1 audio out, a collection of USB cables, Ethernet, VGA out and digital audio down here. What we are disappointed to see is there's no sort of newer features back here. There's no external eSATA input for a fast external hard drives, there's no HDMI. So, we understand some of you might want Wi-Fi in a system like this, but we think most people would go for a hard wire connection, so the Wi-Fi ends up being kind of useless. Now, you do get a good bit of room for upgrading inside this PC. The hard drive cage is a little bit clunky, but you know you can undo these screws, take it out and stick another hard drive if you want. The memory slots are also, but you do get a nice set of expansion slots up here. There's a graphics card slot, two 1x PCI Express slots, as well as a single standard PCI slot. And because that is integrated graphics this is definitely not a gaming system, but the graphics card slot gives you some nice upgrade options. It's got a pretty small power supply, so you can't really add a high-end card in here, but you know you can stick a $200 or $300 card and probably get some decent gaming. So, as we said this is a perfectly serviceable desktop, but you can definitely find a better deal out there pretty much. So, I'm Rich Brown, this is the HP Pavilion a6700y. ^M00:02:00 [ Music ]
