>> Hey it's Justin Yu, Associate Editor for CNET.com with a quick look at this editor's choice winning all in one printer. It's the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless. Now HP always sets the bar high with their multifunctional devices, but this $280 combination printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine is incredibly easy to use. And includes convenient extras like a high capacity auto document feeder and wireless connectivity, so let's take a closer look. Now just because you're buying a printer for the office does not mean that it has to be boring and ugly. And we actually like this glossy black control panel here that houses the large 3.5 inch color touch screen display. And we've seen a lot of competing printers with touch screens lately, but few do it as well as HP. The onscreen menus are simple to navigate, and you can use the display to access all your functions and printing preferences. Now you also have several options for how to connect this printer to your computer. You can set it up on a single computer via USB, on a network using the Ethernet port, or through a wireless 802.11BG network, all of which are a piece of cake to set up. We were able to do it in less than 5 minutes. Now some of the other features you'll find on the 8500 are a large 250 sheet input tray, a 50 sheet auto document feeder up top here for hands free scanning and copying, a media card reader down below for direct printing, but one drawback, no Bluetooth connectivity. The printer draws ink from 4 cartridges and 2 print heads, which cuts down on costs, because you won't have to replace the entire unit. Simply refill each tank as it runs out. Now as usual we ran our speed and quality tests on this printer, and the 8500 killed it. HP never fails to impress us its lightening fast output speeds, but this one really killed the competition printing 11 pages per minute. That's double the speed of the second place competitor in our tests. Now if you're hoping to increase productivity by speeding up the printing process, this 8500 will not disappoint. And we were also just as pleased with the output quality. In addition to printing excellent text and presentation documents, the 8500 also turned out great looking color photos with pinpoint color accuracy. So we couldn't be happier with this printer. Sure we have a few nit picky complaints, like a lack of auto dial fax buttons and Bluetooth connectivity, but there's really not a lot missing here. With a handy touch screen display, chart topping print speeds, lab quality prints, and a host of extra features, the HP Officejet 8500 sets a very high standard for office workhorse printers. I'm Justin Yu, and you just took a quick look at the latest editors choice winning printer; it's the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless. Thanks for watching. ^E00:02:36

HP markets the Officejet H470wbt to the mobile business professional, but it chose aesthetics over performance. The sleek design and cost-effective cartridges give its rating a slight boost, but the degradation of print quality from the previous model is definitely a deal breaker.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless Review
The good: Autoduplexer; automatic document feeder; easy to use 3.4-inch LCD touch screen; painless 802.11b/g wireless setup; industry-leading print speeds; excellent quality prints.
The bad: Lacks autodial fax buttons, Bluetooth, and a dual paper input tray.
The bottom line: The HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless makes a convincing inkjet argument for offices with a high volume of prints. With a function touch screen, multiple networking options, and an astoundingly fast print speed, it makes perfect sense to give this workhorse an Editors' Choice award.
