>> Hi, this is Justin Yu [assumed spelling], assistant editor for cnet.com. We're taking a first look at the HP Office Jet J6480. Now this is HP's all in one device. It's a multi-function, meaning it has a built in printer, scanner, color copier, and a fax machine. Now this one's pretty unique in that it has a lot of features that you don't find on other all in one devices. It has built in Wi-Fi for printing wirelessly, an auto duplexer for printing on both sides of a sheet of paper. You can also do light photo editing on their included software driver, and there's even a scanner with optical character recognition. Now this is a feature that you don't really see in a lot of printers. If you scan a piece of paper, it'll recognize written letters on the paper and translate that into editable text. So we put the J6480 through both speed and quality tests, and it did very well in both. It printed text at five and a half pages per second, which is pretty fast for an all in one printer. And the photos we printed came out crisp and accurate. Some of the negatives that we didn't like about this printer was that there's no pict bridge compatible port, so you can't plug a camera directly into the printer. Also there are only three auto dial buttons on the front console here. Most all in one devices have at least eight. And finally, it was kind of slow on the photo prints compared to the rest of the features. [ background music ] But for the most part we really like the J6480, and it's actually one of our favorite multi-functional printers. So this is Justin Yu, and this is the HP Office Jet J6480. ^M00:01:17 [ music ]

HP Officejet J6480 Review

The good: Loads of useful built-in hardware including autoduplexer, auto-document feeder, Optical Character Recognition scanner; painless 802.11g wireless setup; excellent quality text, graphic, and photo prints.

The bad: No PictBridge support; only three autodial fax buttons; slower than average photo prints.

The bottom line: The HP Officejet J6480 has a lot of built-in features that are rarely found included in a $200 printer. Shoppers looking for an all-inclusive multifunctional unit will be impressed with the robust hardware and rich print quality.
