>> Justin Yu: Hey what's up guys I'm Justin Yu associate editor for CNET.com and this is a first look at the HP Office Jet J4680 printer. Now HP calls it an all in one because you can also fax, copy, and scan in addition to printing. But before we do that let's take a look at the physical make up of the device. So as you can see the design is pretty boring and that's so it can fit in a wider variety of offices. But it's actually a lot smaller than other multifunction printers thanks to this removable input tray in the front where you load the paper. Now unfortunately there's no separate output trays so all your printed documents lay directly on top of the blank ones and that can get a little confusing and you'll also find yourself refilling paper quite often as it can only hold 100 sheets at a time. But you do have this auto document feeder on top that can take another 20 sheets. Now most of the front is taken up by the control panel here. It's got a numerical keypad for faxing, a slim 2 line LCD, a directional pad and some access buttons. There's also a toggle key that you can press to turn on the internal wireless print server on and off. Here's where we have another gripe though. There's no USB input to be found so you can forget about direct printing off a USB key or storage card. So this printer uses a 2 ink cartridge bay. One for black and one for tricolor but we prefer other ones that use 3 individual color cartridges to save you ink. The printer didn't fair very well in our speed tests either. We printed about 3 graphical color pages per minute and 5 pages of black text per minute which wasn't the slowest out of other comparison office printers but it's definitely down there and we can't imagine an office that can afford to keep such a slow printer around. Luckily the print quality is pretty good. Black text came out rich and bold with clear readability even in small 2 point text and color graphics on plain white paper look good too. And you can check out my in depth analysis in the review but the short story is the equally priced Lexmark X7675 Pro gives you much faster output speeds and extra features you don't get in the J4680. So I'm Justin Yu and you just watched a short review of the HP office Jet J4680 printer. Thanks for watching.

HP Officejet H470wbt Mobile Printer

HP markets the Officejet H470wbt to the mobile business professional, but it chose aesthetics over performance. The sleek design and cost-effective cartridges give its rating a slight boost, but the degradation of print quality from the previous model is definitely a deal breaker.

Canon PowerShot SX1 IS

The Canon PowerShot SX1 IS offers a 20x zoom lens and HD video, which you can't get in a similarly priced dSLR, and delivers more features and slightly better performance and photo quality than the cheaper SX10 IS.

We love this all-in-one's low price and office-appropriate features, but we can't overlook its poor performance and dismal output quality.

Features and ease of use reign over speed and output quality, which makes the Epson Stylus Photo RX620 less appealing than other multifunctions in its class.

HP Officejet J4680 Review

The good: Inexpensive; auto-document feeder; Wi-Fi connectivity; driver settings provide helpful shortcuts; small footprint.

The bad: Painfully slow output speed; awkward page handling; lacks page status monitor and media card reader; low output page count; ships with shallow ink cartridges.

The bottom line: The HP Officejet J4680 offers more features at a cheaper price than most of its competitors, and small offices and home professionals will appreciate its print quality as well. Unfortunately, its negatives far outweigh the positives: your office productivity will take a major hit because of sluggish output speeds and faulty paper handling. For a better rounded all-in-one printer, we recommend picking up the Lexmark x7675 Pro or investing an extra $90 in the HP Officejet J6480.
