HP's Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4 has a touch display Video Transcript

-Hey there, I'm Josh Goldman, senior editor with CNET, and this is a look at the HP Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4. Now, with a starting price of $799, the Envy is a step down from the Spectre XT TouchSmart which starts at $1399. They look a lot alike, though, with a silver and black brushed metal finish and a large keyboard and touchpad, but the Envy is thicker at nearly an inch and weighs just under 5 pounds. The Envy's 14-inch screen has a 1366 x 768 resolution instead of the 1920 x 1080 IPS panel on the Spectre. But as their names imply, they both have touchscreens for using the Windows 8 interface. Inside this Envy is a core i5 processor, 4GB of memory, and a 500GB hybrid hard drive. Add in the backlit keyboard and the price for this configuration comes in a few bucks over $900. The port assortment is good too including two USB 3.0 ports, but we're still testing it out, so check back soon for a full review, although it looks like a pretty good option if you're looking for a regular Windows 8 laptop with the benefits of a touch display. I'm Josh Goldman and that's a quick look at the HP Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4.

HP TouchSmart 600

HP's new TouchSmart 600 takes advantage of Windows 7's multitouch capability better than any other new all-in-one we've seen this fall. Between strong touch software and a host of digital entertainment options, it might just be the self-contained home entertainment PC you've been looking for.

HP Photosmart Premium TouchSmart Web

Aside from the never-ending name, the HP Photosmart Premium TouchSmart Web All-in-One Printer looks good and prints high-quality photos at competitive speeds. We also appreciate effort put into the downloadable applications for the interactive touch screen, but the innovation is offset by a hefty price tag. Unless Web-connectivity and touch screens are a top priority, we recommend checking out HP's Photosmart multifunction printers that still offer high performance at a much lower cost.

The AMD-powered HP Pavilion Sleekbook TouchSmart 15z is a slim, midsize laptop at a very reasonable price, and includes a touch screen.

HP TouchSmart 310z

The $699 version of HP's TouchSmart 310z looks like an appealing home media center thanks to the upgraded touch software, but this tweaked $1,109 version lacks value. Configure a more modest 310z for a better deal without sacrificing touch functionality.

HP TouchSmart 610q

We recommend the HP TouchSmart 610q with few reservations thanks to its speed, its competitive pricing, and an innovative tilting case design that makes this a best-in-breed touch-based all-in-one.

HP Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4 Review

The good: HP's Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4 is an attractive ultrabook with a respectable mix of components for its price, a responsive touch screen, and a backlit keyboard.

The bad: The Envy TouchSmart 4 isn't very configurable, so you can't make it too much more powerful than it already is. It's on the heavy side for an "ultrabook" (if you consider 4.5 pounds heavy). Its touch pad is jumpy at default settings.

The bottom line: The HP Envy TouchSmart Ultrabook 4 is a good gateway to the Windows 8 experience with a responsive touch screen in a traditional laptop body.
