Firefox sync is an essential feature in Firefox 4 for people with more than 1 computer, but did you know, you can also sync the browser with your android phone. Hi, I'm Seth Rosenblatt for CNET, and today I will show you to synchronize your personal Firefox data like bookmarks, tabs, passwords, and settings on both your regular computer and fancy new android phone or tablet. First of, make sure you've got Firefox 4 installed in your computer and on your android. This will work with Windows, Mac, Linux, and note that at that the time we're filming this, Firefox and android is only available as a release candidate, but the instructions I give you here will work long pass that. In Firefox, go to the menu button and choose set up sync. Hit create account, entering your email address, your password, and check off the terms of service. If you are an advance user, you can the option of storing your sync data on your own server, but for most users, it's fine to use the default server. Mozilla encrypts your data before it sent it to its servers and then stores at encrypted. Mozilla employees couldn't look at it even if they wanted to. Next up, go down to the sync options button. Here's where you can give you computer an easily identifiable name and choose which items you want to synchronize. Once you hit next, sync will start sending your data up to the cloud. Now, to add a second computer just choose the connect option instead of create a new account and be sure to remember your name and password You have 2 options for syncing with your android device. The easiest is when you've got both android and computer in front of you. Go to the android Firefox preferences menu, make sure enable sync as checked and then hit the connect button. A three-line code will appear back on one of your synchronize desktops, go to options and the sync tab. Choose out of device, then type in that code and you're good to go. If you don't have both computer and android in front of you, choose the "I'm not near option." Your desktop Firefox will provide you with a sync key that you can then print or save and enter into your android when you have it by choosing the "I'm not near option there too." It's a fairly straightforward process to get yourself all sync and to unsync simply choose deactivate this device.
