How to integrate Facebook Messenger directly into Firefox Video Transcript
Hey, I'm Seth Rosenblatt and today I'm going to show you how to get Facebook Messenger to become bestest with Firefox. It's a new under the hood feature in Firefox called the Social API, which allows social networking sites to hook directly into the browser. So in the case of Facebook that means you're Messenger sidebar, the status updates, and friends online will be persistent across any site you visit. First, log in to Facebook and Firefox 17 or newer. Then, go to facebook.com/about/messenger-4-firefox. Click, turn on. Instantly, you'll see the Facebook Messenger sidebar with friends' status updates at the top and friends online below it. Also appearing are the 4 buttons to the right of your navigation bar. This is like you control the Facebook Messenger integration Including removing it. The first button links to your profile as well as letting you hide the sidebar and desk top notifications. This is also where you remove it entirely. The next button lets you accept friend requests without having to go to your Facebook page as the icons indicate the third button pulls up a list of your recent messages and the fourth shows recent notifications. So far, Facebook maker Mozilla hasn't announced any other social networking site support for their API, but I'd be surprised the Twitter, LinkedIn, and others didn't come on board sooner rather than later. For CNET, I'm Seth Rosenblatt. And like one-seventh of the world, I'm also on Facebook.
