I'm Brian Tong from cnet.com and we're checking out what makes it the top GPS unit on the market for our Holiday Gift Guide. They call it the ultimate travel companion and no I'm not talking about your significant other, I'm talking about the Garmin Nuvi line. Everything you love about the Garmin Nuvi series just gets better with the Nuvi 660. Now almost every gadget is going the way of the widescreen and the 660 jumps on that ship too. It has a great looking 4.3 inch widescreen display that shows off more of the onscreen maps and can even be viewed in direct sunlight. The other kick butt feature is its integrated Bluetooth so you can make and accept calls hands-free. Just sync up the Garmin with your Bluetooth phone and it's all good to go. Now not all phones are compatible, but it's an extensive list overall. You also can't forget the easy to use interface and I may be a Tech freak but I love being able to use a product without even cracking open a manual; and the Nuvi 660 Is definitely one of those devices. Now outside of its great interface, the Garmin Nuvi has additional features that are separated from other navigation units. The 660 plays MP3's, audio books, and you can upload more files onto an SD card and pop it into the slot right here on the side. You can listen to audio through the 660 speaker, the audio output or the FM modulator. Now usually those FM modulators don't sound very good, but the Nuvi tries to fix that too. If you're in an area that has a lot of competing frequencies, the Nuvi has an auto tune feature that fines the best open slot for you to use. Okay here come the cons and we know the 660 is a stellar product but it's still missing a few things too. There are no external volume control buttons and you have to go into the menu system to get to them. Newer models still haven't changed this. Another thing is there is no support for multi-destination route creation. The new Garmin Nuvi 700 series supports it but not the 660; and then there's the price. It's come down a lot but you're still gonna pay around 600 dollars or more even with some shopping around. But you aren't selected at the top GPS device buyer editors if you aren't all that, and the 660 makes up for its short list of cons with its excellent interface and features.
