>> Hey everyone I'm Jeff Bakalar, assistant editor here at CNET.com and I'm here today with the Harmon Cardin HS300. The HS300 is an AV receiver that can view up scaling to 720P and 1080 I over the HDMI port. In terms of connectivity the HS300 is kind of limited; the only video you are going to be watching is the actual DVD video because unfortunately, the unit does not have any video inputs. To make up for the lack of ports the HS300 comes with two USB interfaces, one on the side of the unit and one in the back; through that you can listen to MP3s and WMAs and you can watch JPEG files. In terms of overall sound quality, the HS300 is excellent; it goes above and beyond the average home theater in a box that is available today. In terms of the video quality for the up scaling, was not that good, you would think for the price you are paying for this unit at the up scaling would perform a little better; unfortunately we were disappointed with the overall quality of that. The HS300 is covered in a silver coating, the speakers have cloth grills over all of them and the unit basically will blend in with any kind of modern home theater setup that you have in your home. In terms of remote design we found that the buttons on and were not really laid out that well, if you buttons are really small and pushed together and it makes for the switching through inputs pretty tough. Over all the HS300 is a decent choice, it's a little expensive considering the up scaling doesn't perform as well as we would have wished. I'm Jeff Bakalar and this has been Harmon Cardin HS300. ^M00:01:52 [ Music ]

Harman/Kardon HS 300 Review

The good: Sleek jet-black AV receiver/DVD-Audio/Video player; HDMI and USB connectivity; five two-way satellites; matching 10- inch, 200-watt, powered subwoofer.

The bad: Awkward remote; quirky setup menu navigation takes some getting used to; no automatic speaker calibration; video upscaling should be better at this price.

The bottom line: If you can look past the quirky interface and high price, the sexy Harman Kardon HS 300 delivers sophisticated styling, solid performance, and better connectivity and speakers than last year's model.
