Google search terms of the summer Video Transcript
Welcome to CNET Top 5, where each time we meet, we count down another hot CNET list. I'm Tom Merritt. Time to check the zeitgeist of the world. We looked into Google's search records at google.com/insights/search to see what the fastest rising search terms were worldwide over the past three months. Let's count 'em down. At No. 5, Windows 7. Yes. It's not just us geeks. The entire world is talking about Windows 7. And searching for it. And trying to make sense of the 6 million versions of it. Confusion doth breed popularity. Coming in at No. 4, Facebook.com. This is one of those things where people type the address into Google as if it were the address bar of their browser. But--yay! Facebook is winning among the people who don't know how to use browsers! Up to No. 3, Fanatik. Another search term that is 100 percent Turkish, according to the Google data. From what I gather it's a Turkish sports news site, and apparently it's on the rise. Sliding in at No. 2, Harry Potter. The movie Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince came out this summer, obviously spiking interest. Look for this term to spike again around November 2010 when Deathly Hallows part one comes out. Before we get to No. 1, time for another lame prize. Fanatik got me thinking about Turkish sports. Obviously Soccer is the most popular sport in Turkey. But traditionally, what is Turkey's national sport, dating back to Ottoman Times. Post your answer at the post for this top 5 on our blog at blog.cnettv.com. And you could take home this necklace of Footballs! All right. Let's get to our No. 1. The fastest rising search term of the summer, according to Google. At No. 1, it's... Michael Jackson. Our last Top 5 search terms episode was recorded just before Jackson's passing and he didn't make the list. But three months later the love for the King of Pop keeps on coming strong. You're missed Michael. Well That's it for this edition of CNET Top 5. Don't forget to answer our lame prize question for a chance to win the necklace of Champions! I'm Tom Merritt. See you next time.
