>> Hi, I'm Peter Butler from CNETdownload.com and today I'm taking a first look at Google Desktop Five; the latest release of the search utility and gadgets engine. Google's desktop search works directly from your favorite web browser. It looks exactly like the Google website, with an additional desktop link for searching your local machine. Searches return results for e-mails, files, all Web history, chats and other desktop items in a list just like the Google Web results. One minor annoyance is that the desktop search only allows 10 results a page, as opposed to the Web search which lets you add up to a hundred results a page. The coolest update to Google desktop five and really the only major addition is new previews for search results, Google desktop four added gadgets, which are really just widgets in a different name. The major update for Google desktop five is the sidebar which gets a new vista style redesign with rounded corners and transparent buttons that blend into your background image and things like that. For those of you who are worried about sharing your personal information with a giant software Corporation you should read their privacy policy first, which pretty cleanly and clearly states will not make your content accessible to Google or anyone else without your explicit permission. However if you enable some of the advanced features, remember that non personal usage stats may be transmitted to Google. Google desktop five may not have been a revolutionary update but it's, it can be considered comparable to Windows this to, mostly just a whole new look for the engine, it's a great free resource for finding that lost the e-mail file, image or whatever you might be looking for. This has been Peter Butler from CNETdownload.com with a first look at Google Desktop Five. ^M00:01:43 [ Music ]
