>> Dan: I'm Dan Ackerman and we're here taking a look at the Gateway P7808, that's part of Gateway's FX Series of budget gaming laptops, that's something we've always really like. What they've done is they've taken a basic 17 inch laptop shell crammed in, you know usually a decent CPU, a really good graphics card, lots of RAM and basically sold it to people who wanted to play games you may not necessarily have to, you know, turn all the options all the way up for a good mainstream gaming experience you could not do better than these they're usually about 1,200 bucks. This new version, however, is a little bit more advanced. What they did is they stuck a quad core CPU in there. It's an Intel Core 2 Quad so that drives the price up to about 1,700 bucks. You still do have the INVIDIA G4's 9,800 card which is really the best bang for your buck video card you can get for your laptop. So physically this system looks exactly the same as the last 3 or 4 FX Series laptops we've looked at from Gateway it's got the same big keyboard, it's got the same media control buttons up here. Inside, obviously, you've got that core 2 quad now, the GPU remains the same. One thing Gateway kind of goes back and forth on on these systems is the screen. Originally they were kind of low res screens especially for a 17 inch system they were 14 by 9. Eventually they were able to bump that up to 19 by 12 which was great. However, now they've gone back down to the 14 by 9 screens and a 1440 by 900 resolution on a 17 inch screen meant for gaming just isn't high enough. Now with that quad core processor a regular application performance is fantastic, game performance still very good this compares very favorably to system's costing $2,000, $2,500, but if it was us we'd probably ditch the quad core and go back to the 7805 model which is still available, that has a regular dual core CPU and it's only like $1,150. But no matter which version as long as Gateway keeps churning out these gaming laptops that do more for less money than anybody else we're gonna remain big fans of the FX Series.
