>> Hey, I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor for CNET Reviews and this is the Gateway MD7818u. It's part of Gateway's MD series of laptops. It's designed to offer consumers a capable multimedia notebook at a reasonable price. It succeeds to that end by giving the MD7818u and the MD7801u, which is the same system in black, a large 500-gig hard drive, a 16:9 15.6-inch display, touch-sensitive media controls, and 4-gigs of RAM, all wrapped in a fairly upscale design and all for less than $700. Compared with similarly priced retail laptops, Gateway's budget minded MD series is one of the more impressive examples and looks and feels like a more expensive system. Its performance is right where it should be for its price and component set. The Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor they uses is good for everyday multitasking and of the integrated Intel graphics processor doesn't support much beyond casual gaming and movie playback, that's all that's really need in a budget, mainstream laptop. We had a couple of minor quibbles with the system however. For one, the glossy case and keyboards around collect fingerprints like mad. There's no FireWire connection, but you do get 4 USB ports and an Express card slot and while you do get 80211n Wi-Fi, there's no built-in Bluetooth. Again, all very minor things when looking at the big picture. I'm Josh Goldman and that's the Gateway MD7818u. ^M00:01:41 [ Music ]
